Also destroyed are 2500 year old artifacts from the Hellenistic Period.

The British forces used the "Sphinx" for target practise back in the good old days, Lord Elgin nicked the frieze of the "Parthenon" (to name but 2 of like examples of destruction) and there are countless other examples of such destructive actions.

Do you consider these latest ones as any more offensive than those which preceded them ?.

Throughout history, the first evidence of contempt for the culture of others has been the destruction of their art and treasures.

A sad fact but undeniably true................................... how about "Dresden".

It took a lot of courage from the barbarians to do this though

I would like to see a link or evidence about the British using the Sphinx as target practice.

I do not condone Greek Antiquities being displayed in London when they should be in Greece, but Lord Elgin never destroyed the antiquities and was probably concerned about the fate of these artifacts at the hands of the Ottomans who would have behaved as Islamic State did at the Mosul Museum.

Dresden Bombimbs was to bring WW2 to a swift end. Completely off topic.

Although Napoleon is said to be responsible for removing the nose of the Sphinx, the British Army are said to be responsible for using the Sphinx for target practise.

Lord Elgin was an underhanded dealer in ancient artefacts, he tricked the Greek authorities (or bribed them) into allowing him to remove the frieze, never mind about what the Ottomans might have done if they had been given the chance, it would have at least been expected of them as opposed to what one would have expected from the honourable British (don't you agree?).

As to Dresden, what an incredibly horrendous and murderous attack on a widely acclaimed beautiful city, only "Savages" of the very lowest order (I'm quoting Miltiades here) would perpetrate such an inhuman and cowardly assault upon a sleeping city and in the process of destroying irreplaceable art treasures, kill thousands of innocent civilians......Oh but wait, I might be getting a bit off the topic here by confusing Dresden with the "Shock and Awe" assault on Baghdad.

Come to think of it, WE of the West, do not really have that much to crow about, if we wish to be fair that is.

the Americans invaded Iraq in 2003 and left in 2011. Almost a decade in Iraq,
Was there any documented evidence of museum destruction?
