Hellenic Defence Industries

Postby Paphitis » Mon Aug 24, 2015 12:42 pm

This is the kind of stuff Greece should be investing in so that its Defence Industries are expanded in collaboration with regional partners such as Israeli Defence Industries!

Let's put some Greek Graduates to work. It's not as if the country doesn't need weapons, so you might as well put a few thousand citizens to work making weapon systems for the country - UAVs, APC, Tanks, Patrol Boats, Fast Attack Craft, Helicopter Gunships etc etc.

Lordo,

no one ever accused you of having a brain so don't worry!

A Defence Industry would be a very good thing for the country, creating thousands of good jobs and possibly an export market to the South Adrican Military, also affiliated to Israeli Defence Industries.

The Military will always be buying arms and will need private enterprise to back up, service and maintain its inventories. That's never going to change.

Greece has had serious defence technology for over a century. It got into ammunition and explosives manufacturing back in the early 20th century with the Bodosakis group and for many years exported small arms and artillery ammunition. For nearly 40 years it has been making small arms, light and medium artillery pieces, anti aircraft guns, built warships and is participating in many projects building parts and sub assemblies for tanks and aircraft. Hellenic Aviation holds top certification for repair and rebuilding, the shipyards make missile boats while there are aseveral quiet projects for UAVs. The Hellenic Vehicle Company makes Leonidas tanks and most of the trucks and jeeps used by the armed forces.

Lordo likes to portray Greece as a nation of farmers, fact is that less than 8 per cent of the work force are employed in farming.

The major goal now should be to jump one step ahead and get into the systems that will counteract stealth technology, and there are such fledgling systems now, energy weapons and anything that will nullify the efforts and expenses of some unmentionable others.

I am aware of most of Greece's Defence Projects, at least those that are not secret, but it's time to ramp this entire industry up by signing deals to build F-35 Flighters in Greece, build submarines, frigates and Destroyers with the Israelis rather than buy off the shelf.

The German Submarines were are complete disaster, so I see no reason why Greece and Israel can't build their own Kockums Class.

I see potential for huge growth.
