Yes, it reveals that London’s miniscule 28% contribution is insignificant compared to all the rest!

I bet they would prefer to fund those "lazy" southern European states now. That would be cheaper than the current financial state Britons are going to find themselves in.

Is that all tax revenues or just income tax? It doesn't say. :?:

London population 8.65mn - Readings population 232,662.
London pays 28% of taxes collected - reading pays 1% of taxes collected.

The population of London is 37 times greater than that of reading, so tax collected in London per head of population, is less than in Reading.

So, yes it tells you something. You can prove anything with numbers.

London has roughly 13 1/3% of the population of the UK (8.674 x 100 / 65), which means that it pays well over its whack in taxes. (Reading, which is close to London and is in the M4 corridor does too).

With all due respect you all of your knowledge but this is not like for like.

London is a major business centre a single company (say HSBC) could be paying more tax than and other area alone.

You would expect this kind of differential and it proves nothing.

Its like trying to compare the tax Paralimni pays with Nicosia or Limassol.

Paralimni probably makes more through drug trafficking and prostitution rackets but it’s all undeclared!

It says to me that anybody who cares about the future of the UK at this time of grave crisis had better care about the future of London, and realise that this is underpinned by its success as a financial centre. It also points to the need, long term, for a more balanced development policy that will do more to help the former industrial heartlands.

An interesting recent comment by Donald Tusk, in which he seems to be distancing himself from the voices in the EU calling on the UK to get out as quickly as possible:

The head of the European Council says the European Union must wait for the British government to decide whether to leave the bloc or stay in it.

Donald Tusk says Thursday that the European Treaty puts no pressure on a nation filing the Article 50 motion to leave the group at any certain time. He says until Britain files the motion, it remains a full EU member.

Tusk said on Polish TVN24 that "the European Union must wait for the British government to decide whether it wants to leave the union or whether it wants to stay in it."

Tusk called Britain's June 23 vote to leave the 28-nation bloc a "very sad thing" and said it was a "very serious mistake" of Britain's political elite to call such a vote.
