The warthog is just fine… it has symmetry, a uniform color, and is a great survivor.

Tim, is just being silly because he hates losing arguments!

No, you have asked us to contemplate the universe, regard its aesthetic perfection, and see in this the hand of a perfect creator. I am doing this and notice there are quite a few aesthetic flaws.

Well perhaps that is the optimum best a warthog could look in the environment it found itself evolving in!

Well, wait a minute, you are chiming in to defend someone who is arguing in favour of intelligent design and against scientific theories such as evolution. We are told that the aesthetic perfection of the universe is evidence of a perfect creator. Aesthetics is a subjective matter, and some people may find the warthog to be a delight to behold, but the consensus view is not along those lines. I do not consider the warthog to be aesthetically attractive, so I am afraid that this is one example where I do not find the universe to be perfectly well designed along aesthetic lines.

Just to clarify the meaning of these terms, this is what is meant by symmetry and asymmetry:

This is Mount Taranaki in New Zealand, said to be the most symmetrical mountain in the world:

On the other hand, the overwhelming majority of mountains are not symmetrical. What are we supposed to do? Contemplate the above example as a supposed piece of evidence of intelligent design, and ignore all the others? I really do not get it.

The following mountain, on the other hand, is clearly not at all symmetrical:

(I can't get the image to display here but it appears on the page above.)

So what is the point about this perfect symmetry that we are supposedly confronted with when we contemplate the universe?

Tim, you’re actually derailing the issue which argues that the design that has gone into the universe is obvious because objects in the universe are symmetrical, intentionally positioned, and aesthetically beautiful.

And there you go analyzing relatively minute items found on a specific planet!

That’s being silly!

No, it isn't. Otherwise you are implying that God is not perfect.

OK. Let's look at something a bit bigger. Here is a diagram showing the relative sizes and positions of the planets in our solar system. I just see random sizes and positions. Where's the symmetry?

the symetry is in gr's mind between his head and his arse. the trouble is his world is upside down on account he has spent time in australia. he thinks and speaks from his arse and he craps out of his head. i really think he needs a bit of an electric shock to correct his metabolism to function correctly.

One of these days you’re gonna have to explain how you manage to evade lampposts, electricity poles, road signs, doors, walls, and the myriad of other obstacles you come across in your daily life without running into them and hurting yourself. :?

I haven’t the faintest idea how you’ve survived this long and I’m genuinely curious just as people look at the pyramids and wonder how they were built!
