Obama visits Greece

Postby Paphitis » Tue Nov 15, 2016 2:53 pm

President Obama is on an official visit to Greece and has re-affirmed the USA's commitments to NATO and as a key ally and supporter of the EU.

Meanwhile, Trump has already made phone calls to the Australian Embassy re-assuring America's commitment to ANZUS and described Australia as a special and key country for Australia.

He also stated that America's foreign policy objectives and interests will remain the same.

Basically, nothing changes! :D

And what has Obama done for Greece in all their troubles ? I am surprised he is not calling in on Cyprus as well.

He also made a very cordial phone call to President Putin apparently...... I wonder if Trump has realised yet that Putin has a 'T' in it ....... his name is not pronounced 'Pu'in'. Getting some ones name wrong is the height of ignorance and disrespect !

He can tell you what ever makes you feel happy as he is Yesterdays Man. He has had eight years to make a difference in the world and all he did was start eight more wars and concluded none. When it turns out not to be so, he will be retired and won't give a sh*t!

America has done quite a lot for Greece.

The moral support the United States has given Greece at a diplomatic level is beyond question and they have been supportive of all the bail outs and even a hair cut to the Bank owned liabilities.

And, it's not America's responsibility. It's not as if they will pay Greece's debt but they do send a lot of aid for the Syrian refugees and they also give Greece some military aid to protect its borders.

And the POTUS visit is a huge honour since America chose to visit Greece which is another country which shares the same democratic principals, western values, the rule of law and to reiterate the shared interests and cultural links between the 2 countries which are extensive.

It has done far more than the EU and Merkel and Obama promised Tsipras that he will be sending a strong message to Merkal for a haircut on the debt.

Greece is also a critical ally to America, an important NATO member and Greece also hosts the USN in its ports and there are a number of bases in Greece as well.

Israel is another important ally to Greece as you can see for yourself when the IAF dropped in to say HELLO!

Yeah ..... thy were so pleased to see him that over 3000 people gathered in Athens and many launched petrol bombs in protest at the huge police presence. The police must have been their to stop Obama being overwhelmed by the affection the people hold for him.

The Greeks have long memories ..... go back a few years . Didn't the US support the Military Junta in the 50's/60's and also were involved in killing thousands of Greeks just after WWII to prevent a communist take over? :x

Is that all? 3000 people hey?

Who cares. Wherever the POTUS goes there will be these kinds of demonstrations because he is the most powerful and influential global leader and power.

Greece and the USA as well as Cyprus and Israel are joined at the hip together and are nations among a much broader association and alliance of Nations spanning the four corners of the globe.

Obama made it very clear that agree e is a key ally of the USA and that the 2 Nations enjoy special bonds.

Btw, the Chief of Staff for Trump is a Washington insider, and is half Greek.
