Basically it's extreme poverty, hunger and a standard of life for the common people that barely exceeds that of some of the poorest African countries.

Castro was an infinitely more cruel leader than Honecker for example, yet the latter has been held far more responsible for the poverty, torture and loss of life in his country than the first. Either way, it's a very good thing Castro passed away - I hope the country can finally start to move towards a brighter future now.

He liberated the Cuban people from American decadence that had proliferated in the 30s, 40s, and 50s turning the country into a massive gambling and prostitution racket. After the liberation the Cubans survived with less but had their dignity restored.

Those he punished and exiled were American collaborators in the trashing of Cuba. Today’s Cuban community of Florida are the children of all the trash he got rid of in the 50s.

I agree with you and all you need to do is look at the TV ............ most of those of the Cuban community in Florida, as seen on any TV channel, are far too young to have been witness to what they are proclaiming. They believe the version told by their parents and even then many of the parents could only have been children when it happened.

In contrast, the pictures coming from Havana show a country and a people suffering grief at the loss of a leader they clearly revered. It was the ordinary Cuban that gained from Castro’s vision and they appear to know that. They will now be concerned as I think they will lose what they gained without their ‘dictator’ ......... when the Americanised exiled Cubans move back with their American attitudes, to reclaim their losses!

I am disappointed in Trumps comments but not surprised. As a Casino and Hotel mogul, his family business more than likely had business interests in Cuba and would have been adversely affected by Castro’s revolutionary victory. So he holds a grudge.

I suppose Trump won't be attending the funeral in place of Obama then?

...indeed. thanks to Castro, there exists a choice for the Cuban people.

...they need to resolve the differences among themselves, this too, is true.

Castro's heroes were Makarios and Grivas.
