Mate , I look for value for money , I work for my money, still at the age of 70, I fly 6 or seven times a year to Cyprus and I'm not going to give my hard earned money to some badly run airline that does not recognize the difference between a debit card and a credit card !!!

CY went out of business not because it was a well run airline but the opposite. Lets hope the new one is more efficient .

By the way years ago on a thread about CY I predicted the down fall calling CA " SKY HIGH ROBBERS ".

BTW Miltiades, I have spend over $35000 in airfares every year for a long time and have enough miles points to go around the world 3 times in business class. And I'm planning such a trip next year (whirlwind 5 continents tour all free of charge). That's a lot of travel.

there are no sky robbers. just airlines which have high standards and those with not so high standards and I've seen it all from behind the scenes. Anything from counterfeit parts to Airlines breaching minimum safe altitudes which if you ask is a real biggy. These things also occur in Britain and Europe believe it or not and under other highly regulated frameworks.

You would be well advised to not be so blaze about your travel, and to stop talking down carriers (like CA) which were as a matter of fact a very good airline.

To answer your question about EASY, it is probably fine as it operates under a very tight British regulatory framework (CAA). but not all LCC have that, which means the entire LCC industry is a bit like playing Russian Roulette. There are hundreds of airlines, which offer cheap fares that shouldn't even be flying.

EASY however, no matter how tight the regulatory framework is, is not as good as its non LCC competitors.

So I wouldn't if I were you be jumping on and off Russian registered LCC carriers, or eastern European LCC carriers or Belarus LCC carriers just like you wouldn't for Indonesian Registered LCC and there are many many more. You are risking your life. do yourself a favour and pay a little extra and jump on an Emirates, QATAR, Air France, Lufthansa, QANTAS, British Airways or something along those lines. Cheapest is NOT always a great idea. And don't put your loved ones on certain LCC airlines either.

fact of the matter is this. Low Cost means the airline is cutting overheads elsewhere. Some airlines do illegal stuff as well.

many airlines around the world are cheating their Fatigue Risk Management as well.

Pilots are working harder and for less money.

They fly x amount which contravenes CAO 48.1 or exceeds their Flight and Duty times, and they don't fill out their log books.

There are hundreds of issues. This is the kind of caper you can expect in LCC.

pilots without experiences are forced to PAY for their training and Endorsement. Costs up to 50,000 Euros, and when they get checked to line, they can't long their hours and often paid below minimum wage. yes it is true. There are pilots earning less than a room cleaner in hotels. sad but true.

think about it! Will these airlines attract the right pilot?

Mate that is a hell of a lot of money !
I generally use EasyJet for Cyprus or Greece. For Belarus I use mostly the only direct flight operated from Gatwick, Belavia Air.

On occasions I use Ukraine Intern, Airlines which I also use when flying to Kiev.

Easy jet operate more than 200 aircraft , Airbus 319 and 320. Modern safe aircraft.
I'm not as rich as you appear to be therefore I do take care of my expenses, and I never fly business class.

Each fiver I save equates to a bottle if red

Yes but a fiver you save is a fiver that is not spent on C Checks.

at the end of the day, the money has to come from somewhere, and LCC is taking the industry to places that it shouldn't.

I can tell you stories that should scare you and you wouldn't look at aviation the same way ever again.

EASY are transparent because of the regulatory framework they operate in. But others are not ok at all.

Safe flying!

Lets hope that the New CA will be run efficiently and that their prices will be more in line with other carriers. I will most certainly use the new CA but will not be twice as much as I currently pay Easyjet.

Easyjet is a low Cost carrier.

is this new CA also be a LCC? Even if it is, it can't possibly be as competitive as EasyJet who own their own planes.

So you're not comparing apples with apples. Only an idiot would have compared a Cyprus Airways, or Emirates, or QANTAS, or BA with Easyjet. Only an idiot!

And you will get the safety standards you deserve too, to be competitive with your price expectations just like Helios if you know what I mean.

The loss of cyprus Airways was a massive catastrophe for cyprus.

I couldn't agree more.
Cyprus Airways was one of the most safest airlines in the world.

@Paphitis:
how would anyone know how safe an airliner is? Are there any publicly available indicators?
This site here says it replies on passengers for it's ratings (what would a passenger know about the safety of the aircraft??). They sure do know how to rate it's service though

It didn't go bankrupt. It was still a viable operation and they sold the rights to use the logo for 10 years.
