A NEW incarnation of Cyprus Airways is on the way and the airline has received the first aircraft for its fleet. The Airbus A319 wearing the new company’s livery landed today at Larnaca airport.

In July, Charlie Airlines, co-owned by the Russian S7 Group, won a tender competition for the right to use the trademark Cyprus Airways for a decade.

The Ministry of Finance of Cyprus and Charlie Airlines signed a corresponding agreement.

Cyprus Airways will be based at Larnaca airport and operate regular flights to Europe and the Middle East. The airline’s fleet will comprise of Airbus A319aircrafts.

The airline's corporate design elements, including the livery and the logo of Cyprus Airways, were designed by the British agency Landor.

The pastel shades were chosen for the livery: Light blue as the basic color and Azure blue for the underside of the fuselage to replicate the various colors of the Mediterranean Sea surrounding the island.

Lets hope that the New CA will be run efficiently and that their prices will be more in line with other carriers. I will most certainly use the new CA but will not be twice as much as I currently pay Easyjet.

Surprisingly some positive comments, which is nice to see.
Cyprus Mail commentators most probably will be stunned into sarcasm no doubt.

Yes bitches, it's back.

Easyjet is a low Cost carrier.

is this new CA also be a LCC? Even if it is, it can't possibly be as competitive as EasyJet who own their own planes.

So you're not comparing apples with apples. Only an idiot would have compared a Cyprus Airways, or Emirates, or QANTAS, or BA with Easyjet. Only an idiot!

And you will get the safety standards you deserve too, to be competitive with your price expectations just like Helios if you know what I mean.

The loss of cyprus Airways was a massive catastrophe for cyprus.

Cyprus Airways was a badly run airline. FACT.
The only airline in the world, to my knowledge, that on entering your debit card details you were advised that ONLY credit cards were accepted !!!

A few years back I telephoned Nicosia and asked why debit cards were not accepted. Company policy I was told. Never used CA since then. Their prices were the highest, ludicrously high and what annoyed me most was on selecting your flight on line at a specified price as shown, on going to check out the price increased dramatically , I know that a number of other airlines also do this, I just do not like it at all. You give me one price then you add so called fees etc, fuck that, just tell me from the start how much it will cost me don't try to pull the wool over my eyes.

I sincerely hope the new CA will be run efficiently and be competitive with other operators. These nonsense about " low cost" airlines is just that Total nonsense. I do not fly in order that I get a free meal , I and millions of other flyers want to get to our destination safely and at a reasonable price.
By the way, I have booked a one way to Paphos on December 18th, with EasyJet at £132.00 .This is value for money.

You have absolutely no idea how an Airline runs or how they recruit staff and maintain as well as operate their aircraft. It's an expensive business with razor thin margins.

At the end of the day, you are being flown around with Junior Pilots with minimum hours and if that is what you like because you consider an £132 Airfare between Larnaca and London as a viable proposition, then you inherit the standards and safety margins you deserve. I often laugh at heavily discounted airfares and the smugness of the market but if they new what goes on behind the scenes, they wouldn't be so smug.

So you just continue to look at your value for money. As for me, I value my life, and the old cyprus Airways was one of the safest carriers in the world, with very high standards and brand.

There issue was more political rather than it being badly run. there was too much interference from Government and the Unions were crippling the carrier. There was nothing that could not have been solved.

For a big crash to reality, go and read Chesley Sullinberger and watch the movie too, to get an accurate descriptor of the industry you seem to support just to save a few bucks.

Are you telling me that EasyJet is an unsafe Airline ???
Does easy jet use ....junior pilots ???
Mate , I look for value for money , I work for my money, still at the age of 70, I fly 6 or seven times a year to Cyprus and I'm not going to give my hard earned money to some badly run airline that does not recognize the difference between a debit card and a credit card !!!

CY went out of business not because it was a well run airline but the opposite. Lets hope the new one is more efficient .

By the way years ago on a thread about CY I predicted the down fall calling CA " SKY HIGH ROBBERS ".

I'm not sure what EasyJet is like.

It isn't as safe as cyprus Airways was and its flight crews were no where near as experienced because salary conditions are not competitive. so yes, in a way, Easy is not like other non LCC carriers.

it's usually a Pilot's first jet job and then they move on.

Helios had very cheap fares too, as does Air Asia.
