Odd experience in E&S with bank notes

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Most recent update is that the BoC say they are OK and legal tender, and that shops hould accept them. Another bank contacted said that they don't accept them and won't exchange them. So no consistent conclusion (well this is Cyprus after all).

We were informed by our accountant yesterday, that the BoCY will not accept these notes anymore and since word goes around quickly, most shops probably wont accept them either. So always have a look on your notes when you receive them...which I will most probably forget a lot

They will replace them eventually. and they have every right to refuse to accept them. I don't know know the word in english but in greek is called "paraxaraksh". What i believe it should be done, is that Central Bank should replace the notes for a month or two and then stop replacing them. At the end the money with the stamp will stay at the hands of those who went to the casinos. And noone will accept them.

By the way you should all be very carefull. The banks will refuse to accept money with a small round stamp. I asked yesterday.

The money in the atm where probably there for a few days before the banks or shop refuse to take them any more.

Hmm... seems that even Central Bank of Cyprus may refuse to exchange it. According to Directive Regarding the Exchange of Damaged or Mutilated Banknotes and Coins In cases where the Bank knows or has sufficient reason to believe that a criminal offence has been committed or that the banknote has been intentionally mutilated or damaged, it shall refuse to exchange it.
Obviously the banknotes coming from casinos in the North have criminal background. So be careful they even not worth the paper they printed on. And those who will still go to casinos I would suggest to get their winnings in USD or EUR :)

dude... if you can convince every stupid cypriot who plays in the casinos to stop i don't think we will have a problem. Maybe refusing the money from the casinos will be a way to stop them.

I guess that better way to stop people from north casinos is to open casinos here. As I know CTO alredy raised this question, but still no decision was made.

There is a better way: Casinos in Cyprus are illegal.

Secret police can be sent to the occupied areas to check who is going to these casinos. When they return they should be arrested.
