The reason for throwing it back in the sea , as explained to me, is that thete is a risk if left on the pier of being taken by a non Cypriot who isn't aware of the poisonous type of this fish and perhaps eaten. Apparently a couple of Africans were seen collecting these fish but were told of the risks involved by some of the regular anglers. There are many cats on the peer, all looking very healthy but will not touch the Kounellous, it appears that the cats know they are poisonous.

Talking about the " Pier Cats'" , they are fed well not only by anglers giving them small fish such as Atherines, smelt, but also by a number of regular " food suppliets" an elderly Russian lady is there every morning without fail , filling their bowls with dry cat food, also a retired English couple who also come each morning, when cats see them they gather round them, and feed the cats .
I will continue later today with the " real" story, a true story, that left me in ...stitches,

The blonde was rather chatty and interested in knowing about the kounellos I caught , stabbed and threw back in the sea.
She was on a two week holiday and was departing the following day, Friday.
She was from the Czech Republic, first time in Cyprus along with her sister and another lady friend. We talked a lot and I handed her my ...rod to fish. She appeared very friendly and was giggling a lot.

I was coming near the end of my " fushing" time and started retracting my rod. She asked me what I was going to do after. I responded that I always go the cafe opposite for a cheese pie and an espresso, would you join me I asked ?
Would love to she responded !!
Other anglers watched as we trotted across the road to the all night cafe.

We talked at length, she asked if I was on facebook and on being told yes she asked if we could be friends. Sure I responded immediately confirming her friend request.

We exchanged some personal information, she was ... 25 years young !! At 73 I was 48 years her senior. A rather cheerfull young lady and full of charachter .
What will you do now she asked. I normally go home, take a shower and go to sleep.
Then she enquired ? I just laze around I replied, and you ?
Its my last night she said, im going with my sister and friend out for a drink.
Prompted by her ....attention, I said, would you like to have dinner with me ? A big smile and an affirmative response, would love to she said. We meet here I said, is 7 o'clock ok? Sure she replied, I look firward to it !! By that time we had each others number, said our goodbyes and went our separate ways, she was, she said, going for a swim.
Well, I was a ...touch excited, she was just ....my type .....

Arrived home feeling rather ....excited at the prospect of having dinner and ....with this gorgeous blonde.
Had a shower and slept for a couple of hours , something I do each morning after fishing.
At around 5.30 pm I started getting ready, had another shower, something I dont normally do, had a close shave, hairdryed my hair, what's ....left, lots of Boss after shave, even brushed my ...eyebrows using a tooth brush, something I never do, and got dressed, a long pair of trousers and a long sleeve shirt. !! I smiled at my self in the mirror muttering, you lucky bastard !!!
Off I went to the cafe arriving at 6.45, had an espresso and eagerly awaited my ....date!! After having two more espressos I looked at the time and it was 7.40. !!
I was tempted to call her but I'm a proud guy so with my tail between my legs I made my way to my car
As I was getting into my car, a mate who had seen me earlier with the blonde said
" I saw the blonde on the beach, a young man , Cypriot looking, was sitting by her site.!!!!

Well I went home , and believe me I killed my self laughing, the more I thought about it the more I laughed. Here was this old...geezer, almost 74 , imagining that a gorgeous 25 year old would spend her last evening with me

Indeed Erolz, in my case it wasn't just the lip that was ...stiff !!
One advice I always give the young is , learn to laugh at your self otherwise others will laugh at you.

As a pubic school boy Erolz would have been only too aware of the "stiff upper lip" (stereotypical) characteristic.
