Here's something an American (with a Uni degree in economics) told me when he visited Cyprus:
Here in Cyprus your foot has 100 inches right? Ours in the US only has 12 as it should.

I don't know what you mean there, but the statistical reality paints a very different picture.

About 33% of over 25s have a a higher education degree. Now everyone has a different way of teaching maths.

The japanese for instance are extremely strict. I don't think any country can compare to japan and neither would any country want to because the children are deprived of their childhood.

The situation in America has more balance as they are in any Western country.

Most of them?? No.
The fact is the average American University is of much lower standard than the average British (actually the vast majority of the British Unis are all average) , much lower standard than the German ones, even lower than the Greek Metsovio, Panteio or Aristoteleio.
However if you look at the top American Unis, wow! That's where all geniuses get concentrated.
Question is how many are the top ones? 30 among 500+?

NB.NYCU-->everybody with a syringe in their pocket, that's what someone told me.

Err no, the Americans absolutely dominate as far as university rankings are concerned. The British too have great universities s as well as we all know, but I wouldn't say the Brits have better universities than America do.

For example, just to put everything into perspective, American universities have so much money, they support fully professional sporting teams.

Out of the top 500, the USA would have a lot more than 30 universities.

You can count them yourself. 26 of the top 50 universities are American alone.

mate, I just checked the statistics myself and it is pretty conclusive that 1 in 3 Americans have a degree of some description.

I also look into their university rankings, and they are in a dominant position.

It seems to me you just wish that is the case, but people don't just fly to America for life saving surgeries just for kicks and giggles either.

It is just cheap trick to get your attention and then make you feel smart because you solved such a "difficult" problem.

Mate, I eat numbers for breakfast.

You are a very foolish imbecile to challenge me on anything mathematical, because I would leave you for dead.

And the way I was trained, I would crunch the numbers in my head, or at the very most use a slide rule whiz wheel, but certainly no calculator. Most of the time from the top of my head using ratios.

You are ...good with numbers, why not tell us the number of casualties following The Russian attack on the UK or since you compared it to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour do we take the same figures ie. More than 2300 killed and more than 1000 injured.?
By the way, as I did qualify as an accountant many years ago I have to accept your word for you being good at figures as you qualified as a ...pilot !!

These rankings mostly compare apples with oranges.
First of all they are based on specific criteria e.g. on the number of Citations per Faculty which by itself refers to research.
As such it's not surprising that half the American Universities are on top of the list.
On a PhD level I would say most Universities worldwide are about equal.
However the vast output of Universities is not on PhD level, most of it is on first degree or Masters degree.
What's the comparison criteria on that??

I even found a site that ranks Lemonosov (in Russia) 95th worldwide!! This university is huge but just ask anyone who graduated Lemonosov on anything below PhD level. Ask employers who employed such graduates.

Secondly how can you compare a University that was number 1 on subjects like nursery, anthropology, theology and similar nonsense, with another whose subjects were Maths, Computing and Engineering?

My personal criterion is comparing the performance of people who graduated the same thing at the same level.
Anything below Masters Degree and the vast majority of American Universities are below average worldwide except perhaps in computing and programming.

Btw if you think you are great in Maths, just have a look here to learn what Maths at PhD level is all about.

It's about proving the axiom of infinity known as RT2^2
I bet you wouldn't understand a word.
It was news relatively recently...
