It is just cheap trick to get your attention and then make you feel smart because you solved such a "difficult" problem.

Yes, voted - it's a simple arithmetical pattern such as those given in primary schools.

For the person who claimed he could crunch the number in his head ........

You can count them yourself. 26 of the top 50 universities are American alone.

Of course leaving out the crucial point that a lot of their "universities" are rubbish. What is more interesting (based on your link) is how their 'average' university is ranked.

Nothing splendid about that:

Meta rank / Country / Average rank
1 Singapore 37,0

Duh.

I wouldn't call this an IQ test at all, but a bit of a joke, and you just degraded yourself by grandstanding on such a pathetic question.

It's a pattern alright, and it should be obvious to a little kid from Primary School.

Exactly.

This isn't really an IQ test unless its pitched at 10 year olds, in which case it probably has some validity.

Some internet sites also market products like fairly dubious IQ Tests by using this trick and then sell you a bogus test after a short trial. It's just nonsense.

A real IQ test includes geometry, ratios, spatial orientation, and reasoning, verbal and vocabulary testing and reasoning, comprehension and perhaps also some form of personality questionnaire to compare with the rest of society.

Questions like the above are meaningless.

But it seems to stimulkate Miltiades and "g"IG

That's because they probably have a couple of thousand universities and a lot of those would not be highly ranked at all.

But, from the top 100 universities on the planet, 42 are American. That is nearly half and for a population of 320 million people, I find that extraordinary.

42 universities out of the first 100 is just ridiculously good. I wonder how many EU universities there are in the top 100 for 550 million people. I would suspect less for their population ratio.

And forgive me, but an overall ranking of 12 (at its lowest in this matrix) is actually quite good. They are just behind Australia, Germany and Finland, and actually ranked 1 higher than the UK. The USA isn't the dumb country some here are trying to portray. It's actually quite highly ranked and with some of the best universities on the planet.
