A question for GR!

Postby Robin Hood » Sun Apr 01, 2018 10:45 am

As someone who knows virtually nothing about algorithm and how search engines work and do what they do, can I ask a stupid question?

As I have said on here I have found that GOOGLE has been infiltrated and doctored. I assume by the use of selected algorithms, to filter replies so that they are directed toward ‘approved’ web sites rather than the topic of the question asked.

In simple terms please ............ what is involved in creating a ELGOOG that does what GOOGLE does but in reverse? i.e. filters by the question content rather than by having preferred sources for that information.

A year or so ago, enter a question on any topic of current news value into GOOGLE and the independent channels had the same weighting as MSM. It is now dominated by the MSM and other ‘approved’ sources, which makes trying to get a balanced view far more time consuming. They have not blanked these sites out, as in censorship of the news, but are making it less likely that those independent views will ever see the light of day.

OR can you recommend a search engine that is less likely to have this sort of built in discrimination?

You can pay Google to make your site appear on top.
This is the secret of success of this very forum. When it started there were much better and more populated forums (at least 3 the biggest of which was Cypriana's Corner) however this one prevailed and all the rest closed down.
There's a Cypriot guy in this forum by the nick of "Mr-From-NG" who sells something like TV satellite systems in the UK.
He did the same thing and ever since he became a millionaire.

NB. The alternative is to allow Google place ads in your forum. It will again show up on top of any search. I think this is what this forum is doing

I understand you… maybe the Russian Yandex engine is the closest to what you’re looking for...

https://www.yandex.com/

Rambler is another Russian engine you might want to try...

Ohh, FFS.

Stop researching the usual stuff and look at how Google and other such businesses work. The key word is "businesses".

It isn't some bloody conspiracy by "them".

Remember the time when you were convinced that "they" had accessed your secret "the real truth" files? Then it turned out to be Mrs Hood hoovering and pulling out a plug at the back of your PC?

I can do a lot more of this - if that's what you want. Leave me out of it.

How to refine a search with special syntax (in red) for more accurate results…

Exclude Words : jaguar speed -car
Include Words : jaguar speed +car
Exact Match : "tallest building"
Get a Price : phone $250
Number Range : phone $50..$220
Wildcards : "smallest * in the world"
Combinations : marathon OR race
Hash-Tags : #page4
Social Media : @twitter
Specific Sites : site:utube.com
Related Sites : related:utube.com
Site Details : info:utube.com
Cached Sites : cache:utube.com

These don't always work properly on Google.

Try the same search with the website I posted above and you will get different results.

Nobody knows the exact algorithm that Google is using but they promise that they do not manually tinker with the results. The paid results are clearly marked as "Ads", so there is nothing hidden about this, while adding Google Ads in your website has no effect on the rankings. What matters for the rankings is firstly how relevant a page is to the search query. E.g. If you search for "Cyprus Forum" then a page which is called "Cyprus Forum" is probably more relevant than a page called "Cypriana's Corner". Secondly it is how many links a website has pointing to it. The more links the better, especially if those links are coming from authoritative sites. The anchor text is also very important as along with the content of the page it helps determine what the page is about. So if a lot of major authoritative sites start linking to this forum with the anchor text "Get Real's Forum", then when you search Google for "Get Real's Forum" this site would come on top.
