Generally people are very isolated from each other, and it's really hard to associate.
Most Greeks, and Italians are laughed at in the US. Beleive it or not the same happens to the British. Everybody giggles as soon as they open their mouth because of their "funny" accent. Same goes with the Hispanics . The blacks and those of Chinese roots are on constant contempt.
California is the best place for such people, but that's one of the so many states.
Btw the first thing he should do is to buy is shot gun for protection.Everyone has one at home. I bet he will understand the reason within his first 6 months of residing there.
I am almost certain his wife won't like living there.

I 've never met more shitty people in my life than the Americans. No way I would ever go live there.

That's probably why they're talking about building a 3200km border wall and tightening up at the airports and harbours. To keep people from escaping.

You are comparing apples with oranges. Who said Latin America is better than North America? It's like comparing total shit with shit.
In that case you have no other option than move to the shitty country called US.

But move from Australia or Europe to the US??? No way hoze.

I’ve never lived in the US, so bow to your experience of having done so. However, I have spent quite a lot of time travelling around the place. A lot. Obviously, it’s big. :D I’ve found that people from one part can be totally different from another. That’s been particularly apparent to me from coast-to-coast. You might understandably think that a typical mid-westerner was from a different planet to a native of, say, New York. So, are you not - like GR sometimes does - over-stereotyping?

Same here as well. Haven't lived there for more than 10 days at a time. Mostly traveled usually at the central states Kansas etc and hated what I saw. I worked together with the Americans abroad though.
I wouldn't exclude the possibility of over-stereotyping either

Thanks for that admission. I’m often labelled as some sort of pro-US fanatic, which isn’t at all the case. I’ve met and worked with a lot of Yanks, probably like yourself. The majority of them I’ve found to have been friendly, warm people. Some of course have been appallingly arrogant though! But, where isn’t that the case? I do have problems with those who hate all .............fill in the nation. Usually, like anti-semitism, cloaked in Zionism, dressed up as “I have nothing against the ............ It’s their government I hate”. IMHO, It’s bull.

He got a job offer with a major US Company that we all know of, on a good salary.

he is being offered a US E3 Green Card for 2 years, along with his wife. His children will be given 2 year tourist visas and attend American Schools.

He has a choice between Newark and Dulles. We both been to the States and have a fair idea about the place but living there is a different ball game..

After 2 years, the US Corporate will keep sponsoring and renewing the VISA for another 2 years each time at their cost.

Also included is US Health Insurance, subsidized accommodation, free travel for the entire family.

Now my mate is established and quite well off and comfortable. The salary being offered is very good, as well as career progression.

Would you guys leave Cyprus or Australia with your family for the dollars and a US Green Card?

I told him that if he goes he won't be coming back. He would end up staying for 10 years and get the US Citizenship and by that time children will be attending the US Tertiary system and the US will become home and what the family is use to and Australia will become foreign.

Dulles or Newark..... :?

That's very strange. I thought Australia was the top country on the planet!
What's his job??
The US is a strange country, where you have to be aggressive in everything you do to survive.
Generally people are very isolated from each other, and it's really hard to associate.

I 've never met more shitty people in my life than the Americans. No way I would ever go live there. In the UK yes, in Germany erm..., in Scandinavia yes for sure, in Canada yes, in France erm..., most of the other European countries no.
Russia would be good for you and LR for about a year just for educational purposes.

I never said is Australia is the top country in the world. Australia is a very good country yes, but whether it is the top country or not is highly subjective.

It doesn't sound like Americans to laugh at Greeks and Italians at all. In fact, in new York if you go to Astoria and Whitestone, you feel like you are in Greece.

And no you do not need a shot gun. yes the gun laws are very liberal but I would say that the US is still safer than Athens or Paris and many parts of Europe. Yes there is a lot of gun related crime. They are struggling with their gun issues, and because there are so many guns there are more gun related events, but the vast majority do the right thing.

I would say that the USA is far safer than Russia too. And no, Russia I would not like to live in for a year. Maybe a holiday yes. In fact, I invested in some world cup tickets, but I am getting the feeling that Australia is going to boycott the world cup.

This is the impression I get from Americans. They are extremely friendly. Overly friendly it is almost off putting. They are friendlier than Australians, Germans or Brits and friendlier than Europeans as a whole. They are however, less street wise too and more naive than Australians and Europeans.

I will not be recommending that my friend get a gun. My wife lied in New York for 2 years when she was working for the UN and use to catch the subway and through the notorious suburbs of Harlem and it isn't what anyone thinks. You got more chance of getting done over by a Lebanese gang in Sydney than getting into any strife in New York. Sorry Pyro but it isn't like you see in the movies you know.

It isn't that simple.

Yes, moving to the States is a viable option. There are advantages and disadvantages yes.

But I wouldn't say that Europe or Australia are clear cut better places. It really just depends. America is a very vast country. So it depends where in the USA too. For instance, I can totally really dig California and even Florida (my wife doesn't dig Florida). My wife digs New York and Washington (Virginia) though whereas I do not. Give me San Francisco and I think I am in paradise in probably the second best city in the world.

USA isn't a shitty place at all. In fact, New York, Boston, Connecticut, Carolina, California and a few other places are fantastic and very livable too.
