US Green cards

Postby Paphitis » Sat Apr 28, 2018 9:37 am

Just had a beer with a friend.

He got a job offer with a major US Company that we all know of, on a good salary.

he is being offered a US E3 Green Card for 2 years, along with his wife. His children will be given 2 year tourist visas and attend American Schools.

He has a choice between Newark and Dulles. We both been to the States and have a fair idea about the place but living there is a different ball game..

After 2 years, the US Corporate will keep sponsoring and renewing the VISA for another 2 years each time at their cost.

Also included is US Health Insurance, subsidized accommodation, free travel for the entire family.

Now my mate is established and quite well off and comfortable. The salary being offered is very good, as well as career progression.

Would you guys leave Cyprus or Australia with your family for the dollars and a US Green Card?

I told him that if he goes he won't be coming back. He would end up staying for 10 years and get the US Citizenship and by that time children will be attending the US Tertiary system and the US will become home and what the family is use to and Australia will become foreign.

Dulles or Newark..... :?

He’s making a big mistake.

He should go to North Korea. Apparently, it’s a fantastic place. Closely followed by Russia and Iran.

A few people will say that on this forum for sure.

But this is a pretty serious situation. It's one of the biggest global companies in the world, and it's offering E3 Work Visas because of the shortage they have in North America.

Offers are for Newark (New York) or Dulles (Washington).

Plenty of positives and negatives. new York and Washington are much like Sydney but without the Sydney weather.

If it was California, it would be easier because lifestyle is better there.

It feels like it will be life changing, and like a permanent move forever and ever amen! :? That's what makes this a real hard decision for everyone.

Once the family get's US Citizenship, I think the family will be Americanized.

When you’re young and adventurous you only think about the adventure.

Don’t expect common sense out of young minds…

That's very strange. I thought Australia was the top country on the planet!
What's his job??
The US is a strange country, where you have to be aggressive in everything you do to survive.
Generally people are very isolated from each other, and it's really hard to associate.
Most Greeks, and Italians are laughed at in the US. Beleive it or not the same happens to the British. Everybody giggles as soon as they open their mouth because of their "funny" accent. Same goes with the Hispanics . The blacks and those of Chinese roots are on constant contempt.
California is the best place for such people, but that's one of the so many states.
Btw the first thing he should do is to buy is shot gun for protection.Everyone has one at home. I bet he will understand the reason within his first 6 months of residing there.
I am almost certain his wife won't like living there.

I 've never met more shitty people in my life than the Americans. No way I would ever go live there. In the UK yes, in Germany erm..., in Scandinavia yes for sure, in Canada yes, in France erm..., most of the other European countries no.
Russia would be good for you and LR for about a year just for educational purposes.

Somebody probably had plans for me to go there for a long time. Thankfully unfulfilled.

I think it would be more appropriate though for some of the CF ardent Russian supporters to spend a year there. They could try something new. Learning the practicalities of posting anti-Russian stuff on the internet from there, as they - and those who infest the "independent" sites - can so freely do against the West from the likes of here. I suspect they would then get a very quick appreciation of Russia - from the inside of Butyrka.

Although, some are probably well qualified to work at The Internet Research Agency in St Petersburg. I hear the money's very good.

That's probably why they're talking about building a 3200km border wall and tightening up at the airports and harbours. To keep people from escaping.

You are comparing apples with oranges. Who said Latin America is better than North America? It's like comparing total shit with shit.
In that case you have no other option than move to the shitty country called US.

But move from Australia or Europe to the US??? No way hoze.

I’ve never lived in the US, so bow to your experience of having done so. However, I have spent quite a lot of time travelling around the place. A lot. Obviously, it’s big. :D I’ve found that people from one part can be totally different from another. That’s been particularly apparent to me from coast-to-coast. You might understandably think that a typical mid-westerner was from a different planet to a native of, say, New York. So, are you not - like GR sometimes does - over-stereotyping?
