The fake stories are the ones in the bible ;) According to some, Jesus didn't even exist. Not even as a person! I am not convinced if this is true or not, but there are certainly a lot more evidence for the moon landings than for Jesus. It seems that there is no record of Jesus anywhere, in either Roman or Jewish records at the time that Jesus lived (according to the bible), and the writings about Jesus only start decades later when Paul (and others even later) started writing Jesus stories!

Sotos, are there any historical records of a “Maria the ugly” that lived at around AD125 in central Europe?

Nope… just as there are no records for any of the countless ancient citizens who did not make it to a throne or did not go out with a huge army to slain others and capture territory.

Jesus, from what we know was just a carpenter… who eventually came into conflict with the ruling party because he managed to establish a following and was thus considered a threat to the authority.

Do we have any historical records of the countless other FAILED threats of past rulers? Very little… most were captured and slain in one way or another just as Jesus was crucified and people soon forgot about them.

During his lifetime Jesus only influenced very small impoverished crowds so there was nothing spectacular about his existence (in the greater picture) that would warrant an official documentation of his life alongside the rulers of the time.

Therefore, I for one do not expect to find much about a “Jesus” from 2,000 years ago and not to mention that Jesus became big AFTER he was murdered much like a painter or a sculptor.

I suppose if Pontius Pilate’s scribes were to record Jesus’ adventures, archaeologists would today discover a slate or a papyrus that read something along the lines of...

“Today, that tattered bearded fellow showed up at the market again and started mumbling the usual strange talk that nobody understands.

A crowd soon gathered and amazingly, he did manage to heal a pauper’s crooked leg and although we have no idea how he did this, if this wizardry keeps up we’re just going to have to do something about this fellow who dares to challenge the popularity of the great leader!”

So I can’t imagine any leader of the time recording the life and times of Jesus for you to discover today Sotos!

Jesus would’ve simply been an insignificant inconvenience for the then government.

Right. But in that case he could have existed as just another unimportant person that none of his contemporaries would care to write anything about. If his life was so spectacular and miraculous (walking on water and all that) then surely he wouldn't go unnoticed.

If you believe the stories in the bible with all those "magical" things, then why doubt the moon landings? People from many countries went to the space and back, many countries have landed various unmanned explorers on the Moon and Mars, we had Mir and now the International Space Station... so the moon landings are nothing that seems impossible. So why doubt the moon landings when you believe far more unlikely stories with far less evidence?
