Turkish Cypriot Origins.

I just want to ask a question, if there is any TCs that know any answers to my question that would be very helpful. Are the majority of Turkish Cypriots settlers from Anatolia or are they linobambaci. Thank you.

It’s very hard to say but I’ll tell you something else that may be relevant…

When the Ottoman Empire folded (1923?) and it converted to modern Turkey the Brits issued the Muslim population of CY (that's how they were called by the Brits) something like an ultimatum whereby they had to choose between returning to Turkey (travel etc accommodated) or staying in CY and abandoning Turkishness. This is something they all had to sign for.

I read that just over 10,000 chose to go to Turkey and that these were people that had the strongest Anatolian ties/feelings while the rest remained and were thus assumed as “ethnic problem solved” by the British.

It could be argued that those who chose to stay may well have had the strongest links with the island… I won’t go as far as saying that they were all “linobambaki” because we don’t really know.

Anyway, something to ponder over I suppose…

NB: I do have a thread on this with more factual data and detail but I did it many years ago so I can’t remember what title I gave it.

Well when I first did Ancestery DNA it said that >1% of my DNA came from Central Asia which is the homeland of the Turkish People. When the website updated its testing methods it took away this >1%. From what I gather, my mother's family were definitely not Linobambaci. Personally I do not believe this crap that the TCs that remained in Cyprus were linobambaki. This is because my maternal family were originally from Anatolia, if this was the case than they would have gone back to Turkey.

linobambaci were originally a specific "caste" of Muslim converts who were originally catholics, converted to Islam to keep their lives but only in name.

One of your male ancestors may have just converted to Islam from Greek Orthodoxy. Who knows.

Having said that, do you know your paternal and maternal haplogroups? Maybe, you can better understand your identity from there if you are really occupied by such a topic.

Well Dr.Cyprus, all I know is that my maternal grandmothers side of the family is from Turkey only. I do not know nothing else about my family origins apart from that. My paternal haplogroup is G2a btw which is both prevalent in Turkey and Cyprus. Don't worry I'm

a few years ago while they were collecting dna to find out the relatives of the remains found in dry wells which eoka dumped, they actually decided to also to collect 500 smaples from each community and offer a free test to them to find out their dna origins. the rsukts showed that gc and tc cypriot dna is closer to each other than tc dna to terggish dna and gc bastard dna to grik bastard dna.

so conclusion there is very little difference beyween tc and gc bastard dna. in fact they may even have more terggish dna than you.

while you are at it do a y-chromosme test to see wheren and when your y-chromosome first appeared. it will tell you where your father's direct descendent were first lived. mine turned up in the med region 15,000 years ago or there about i cannot remeber the actual figure itself and i don't care. fact is we were here before the greeks, romans or any other bastard swine who decided to invade cyprus but particularly griiiks bastards.

as to xerodjahole he is part swine and part griik on account of the greek preference to swines for sexual pleasure.

In the future, if(and lets say if) I ever found solid evidence that I had Hellenic roots. Would Greek Cypriots accept me and other the Turkish Cypriots who are returning to their roots with open arms?
