You are not supposed to dash outside, as you may get hit by falling debri. You need to stand under a door frame, beam, or under strong furniture. In the immediate moments of a tremor, that's when most things fall and dashing out into them, is wrong!

Sorry mate but I shat myself!

I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to follow anything more complicated than... RUN!

I was here when we had the 6.4, back in the 90s. We ran into the garden, only to realise our 17 year old Daughter was still in the house. I dashed back in and to her room - where she was lying on her bed, watching her collection of CDs flying out of their towers. To be met with a “Wow! This is really kool.”

So in the end, your wife was probably doing the right thing.

What, standing around contemplating what was happening?

What makes it funny is that she does fire/earthquake drills like 2-3 times a year at school yet when she was confronted with a real emergency she just went numb!

Yes probably a better thing to do than to just run to your own death.

Was she standing under a door frame too?
