Sotos: what are your favourite browsers and why?

Postby Paphitis » Sun Feb 17, 2019 11:34 am

Other forumers can answer this as well.

It's an interesting topic.

If you have found the utopia, then spill the beans please.

I use the following: Mozilla Firefox Quantum, Waterfox, Opera and Vivaldi

Sotos, I would in particular love to hear your opinion on browsers like Firefox, and other variants such as Waterfox, and Pale Moon if you know anything about these lesser known ones...

Firefox, Chrome and Opera.
99% of the times I use firefox. Why? Because it was once upon a time the best alternative to the shitty Ms Internet explorer , and I got used to it. When for some reason it doesn't work with certain sites I use Chrome or Opera.
Oh I use Chrome exclusively when I log in to sites with my fake accounts, for not messing up the user names+ passwords with those of Firefox.
Here I am coming with Chrome, Cyprus Forum.

There might be a lot of browsers but almost all of them only use a handful of browser engines: Blink (Chrome), Gecko (Firefox) and Webkit (Safari). Opera used to have its own browser engine, but they abandoned it and now they are also using Blink. Same with Microsoft which recently announced that they will abandon their own engine and move to Blink as well.

Personally I am using Opera as my main browser and Chrome as the secondary one. For many years I used Firefox but I abandoned it last year when they moved to Quantum, as some of the extensions I was using didn't work anymore with that and I also couldn't get the tabs to show as I wanted them. Maybe now they solved those issues, but I am happy with Opera so I am not going to try Firefox again for now (I have it installed just for testing sites). It all comes down to my specific workflow, so what suits me best might not be what suits somebody else.

Mozilla was easily the best browser for a while, until they dropped the ball a few years ago.

Now they introduced Quantum, and that is really good. Arguably, they could be the best of the best once again.

The down side according to some of the old Mozilla cult supporters is that old extensions don't work. But they are sorting these issues out. Personally, I only have 2 to 3 extensions - uBlock, HTTPS Everywhere, VivaldiFox, and Dark Reader

It's not a good idea to have many extensions, as it slows down your browser.

There is nothing wrong with chrome either.

Vivaldi - this is one you should try if you are gonna open 50 tabs. Plus, you can stack (group) tabs, pretty important when you have that many tabs open.

Might want to give Quantum another go Sotos - it's good.

I've never sent Sotos a PM ever I don't think. Plus, I think some others might be interested in what Sotos does because he is quite knowledgeable with this stuff.

Plus I wanted Get Real to chime in with some banter.

One could go to 100 car dealerships and test-drive 100 different cars, but it still wouldn’t make them a car engineer or even a mechanic!

Both you and Sotos, are mere browser users and neither one of you should ever forget that. :)

We do have a most appropriate Cypriot saying... “Abou en boxo bou don horon xeri bolla traouthkia!”

And people are switched on enough to take 100 cars for a test drive and know which car feels right and the Classic just doesn't feel right when you are dictating to others on how they interact on the net and deny them access to Google Servers like YouTube.

So basically, you take it upon yourself to assume that your users will never want to subscribe to YouTube. Who will you ban them from next - Netflix, Hulu, Stan, or Amazon?

Sorry dude, but your browser is broken.
