Who says I do not have a wife ? I have a partner that I have been with for nigh on 30 years now and actually we are getting married finally next year. Do I have a wife ? Which just highlights even more how the question asked was itself flawed as far as I am concerned.

I understand for you these kind of 'spats' are of no interest. For me as someone seeking to understand and specifically in the case understand why people chose to believe things they do ( that the original question was clear and obvious and not ambiguous in any way) and how they react when challenged (the question was obvious and I should have just said no, if I did not have wife or kids, yet I do have wife of sorts). I find that all fascinating.

I also see a fascinating 'cultural' thing here as well. You as an intelligent person, on hearing I have no children immediately assumed therefore I have no wife.

Maybe the way you responded was flawed,

you could have just answered him with something like, - I’m engaged but no kids.

Or you could have lied. Really who would know. He was just asking for the purpose of discussion.

Instead, you chose to argue and debate about the way a question was put to you asking you if you have a family.

My choice of response may well have been flawed but it is a logical fallacy to think if my response was flawed then his question was not.

Or you could have lied. Really who would know. He was just making conversation for the purpose of discussion.

I could have lied but that is so against my natural inclination. I was asked a question. My natural inclination is to want to give an straight an honest answer. I was unable to do that because the question itself was flawed. Does he mean kids, does he mean blood relations, does he mean wife, does he mean siblings, does he mean living family and on and on. Compared to his second question, which was not flawed and did not involve me having to guess what he meant (and your guess as to what he meant and obviously meant has proven to be wrong by the way) , I did just answer, straight and direct and honest. Yet apparently you still seem unable to concede that there was any flaw in this first question. I find that fascinating.
