Are humanitarian lawyers only for refugees?

Postby sam1967 » Thu Dec 12, 2019 2:49 pm

I am not a refugee - and I refuse to be - but I am a human being who needs help from humane lawyers and humanitarian journalists, but I have not met any of them! Are they located in Cyprus? Or is it a big lie?
I was defrauded with everything I owned, a company in Cyprus defrauded me for a million and four hundred thousand dollars (I worked 18 years until I was able to save it), I came to Cyprus to file a complaint with the police but no one cared, I appointed a lawyer who made me wait a full year and then discovered that they had paid him I hired another lawyer 4 years ago, he was asked 35% because I don't have the court costs, but he didn't go to court.
I am a cancer patient and I do not have the costs of treatment - I do not ask anyone for the costs of treatment or anything material - I want a humanitarian lawyer, so are there humanitarian lawyers in Cyprus? Are there humanitarian journalists in Cyprus writing about my tragedy? Are in Cyprus human people defending the oppressed?
I hear about the humanity, but are they in Cyprus?
I think I am dying.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Not trying to be funny but do the people you're looking for even exist in the RoC? Good luck and may you get the justice you deserve.

Sam, I hadn't read all of your post when I first responded. I hope your treatment goes well and you make a full recovery. I've been thinking I'm dying for the last 5 years, I'm still going strong, so keep your chin up and be positive.

If you have a strong case and if the offending side is financially strong, strong enough to pay your 1.4 million back then try going to an individual to back you financially to start legal proceeding ASAP. Let me tell you a story that happened 14 years ago to my closest friend here in England.

My friend had a huge place in Brimsdown processing imported garments. He worked with the likes of Littlewoods, BHS, John Lewis etc etc. He was paying a fortune in rent but had a contract of buying the building at £6.7 million. Developers approached him and offered him £12.5 million and he put his right to buy into motion. He planned on doing a back to transaction which would've required very little funds from him. We used to spend most night in each-others houses. On one visit I suggested getting the money together to buy the property first and then sell onto the developers. I made a point that if I was the landlord and could see you getting my property at £6.7 and 10 minutes later selling onto developers for £12.5 I may say fuck this I'm not doing it. I then asked him the ethnicity of the landlord and was told Iranian Jew. I said then I'd definitely buy first. He pointed out he had a water tight contract that cost him £20000 drawn by top lawyers and that I was being silly.

Anyway, on the day of the back to back transaction what I had predicted is exactly what happened. He was like fish out of water and in a desperate position. One of his GC friends suggested getting a group of people to invest in the case and start a legal action for a cut. This dragged for at least 2 years, in the end the landlord lost the case and in the 2 years that lapsed the property gained in value to £13.8 million. All worked out good in the end. He didn't get as much as he should've but he did win the case and got something out of it.

Don't give up so easily, weigh all your options and knock on all doors. Best of luck

On a serious note Paphitis. After reading the OP why would you think my comment to be sick? Sam has been looking for help for 5 years from what I understand. If in those years nobody came to his aid what is he to do or think? Do the people he's looking for really exist in the RoC? You seem to know everything about every country. Why don't you point Sam in the right direction?

If the lawyer believes you have a strong case then they would probably agree to be paid when the case is won and you get your money.

There are no win no fee lawyers in the UK. Is there anything similar in the RoC?

Sorry but something doesn't quite add up here.

If the chap was defrauded, then he has 2 avenues available to him as fraud isn't just a civil matter, but criminal.

therefore, his first port of call, is CYPOL. If he was defrauded of any money and has evidence, the person will be charged with fraud, raising money under false pretenses and also for theft.

The second avenue open to him is to pursue the other guy with a civil case. However, he will need to ensure the other guy has assets which his lawyer can freeze. no point taking someone to court if they have no money for you to get back or retrieve. In addition, if CYPOL have pressed charges, and the offender has assets (like immovable property) or money in the bank, the courts can freeze some of those assets pending the outcome of the court trial if it gets that far. This will allow the court to reimburse and make amends to the victims losses.

Layers will not take a case unless there is money for them to pursue. Because even if they win, the victory is a hollow one.
