Greek and Turkish Cypriots are similar. Maybe Greeks and a small minority of western European Turks are also similar.
But I am afraid you forget the large majority of Turks who have very little to do with Europe. One example: The father in Turkey that killed his daughter because she was raped! Such events happen often in Turkey and the courts are even lenient towards what they call "honor crimes".

If Turkey was just the western coast of Asia Minor then you could be right. But this is not the case.

Could you please show this story.

I can't believe your even trying to pretend this is just a Turkish issue.

Say someone rapes your wife, or is a peodophile to your kid, you kill them that is "honour killing" its still killing which isnt nothing to brag about but its somthing that happens. People who do these crimes should just be left to the family, there gonna get killed anyway wether you put them in jail or not. Its agony to the family to put them in jail anyway cos the families gonna get their own back from the guily person its just making them wait longer.

I think in Greece aswell if someone does the same the family will not be very happy either.

If Turkey was just the western coast of Asia Minor then you could be right. But this is not the case.

Whats all this generalisation, there are parts of the Western Coast of Turkey which are so conservative, where have you got your facts and statistics from, people arnt generalised according to geographical location. In Thrace the most Western part the people I have met have been more tradditionalist Turks.

Face it, Turks and Greeks arnt to different, theres not alot different from the average Turkish and Greek villager, conservative, quite religous, family values etc etc, Greece isnt exactly Western Europe either, you should be proud of what you are and your culture, if its not the "European" norm dont worry, let them accept you for who you are.

It is a third world issue which Turkey belongs. Maybe if democracy existed in Turkey and people were more educated and less brainwashed they would resemble Greeks more. Lets hope that the Turkish government will stop the excuses and will finally work in this direction. Unfortunately though I think a revolution would be needed to limit the power of the army in politics, nothing less would work.

Everyone give Piratis a round of applouse

Oh those stupid Turks, sub-human barbarians living in the 3rd World, maybe you should go to Turkey one day and compare it to other 3rd world countries you may get a shock.

Were actually one of the few Muslim countries with a Democracy wether you accept this or not, the leaders are democratically elected, just like in Turkish Cyprus :P

You'd be shocked, Turkish people are more and more educated, gaining more and more wealth.

I'm sorry to say your stuck in a time warp, your comparing Turkey of 40 years ago to now lol, time moves on my friend, move with the times.

You talk about brainwashing lol take a look in the mirror, I mean look at this racist comment

Turkey and people were more educated and less brainwashed they would resemble Greeks more.

This is a racist comment, Greeks are better than Turks, Turks are lower people than Greeks, its a superiority issue, one YOU need to tackle, generalising and stereotyping isnt very progressive Mr so-called HUmanist Democrat (what Irony  )

Another point you dont seem to grasp is that most Turks really like their Millitary and forget revolution most wouldn't care if it had more power cos it would eliminate corruption. The army has alot of the people's respect, it helps ordinary people and is involved in projects etc you wouldnt understand lol but you should try to understand majority of Turks have no problem with the army and respect them more than the pollitcians.

Lala, facts hurt you, I know. Unfortunately for you it is a fact that Turkey is a 3rd world country, it is run by the army and therefore no true democracy exists, and that the Turkish people are on average way less educated than the Europeans (including Greeks and Cypriots).

If you don't like these facts, then try to change them instead of pretending that they do not exist. Denying the facts and personally attacking me for mentioning them will not make Turkey any better.

As far as generalising and stereotyping, you are the one who started this with your thread. Personally I do not generalize since I talk about the averages.

Piratis your the biggest "generaliser" going.

This just shows your ignorance, your comparing economic prosperity with education rates.

It may come as a shock to you that ex-communist countries which for economic reasons you may call 3rd world today have education levels far higher than anywhere in the Western world so education and economy are not 2 comparisons you can use.

Why don't you go to Turkey, every year they build more Universities and let me tell you somthing their exams are harder and what they are taught is at the highest level, its why you got thousands of Turks all around the world from Turkey in the leading Universities

Also check Turkiye's economy figures, its really rising, up to 13th in the world now, its more 2nd world on the verge of becomming an economic giant lol, along with the other Turk nations it has many solid allies.

What is your problem with the army  the only people who have a problem are non-Turks cos you know you can't try anything funny and get away with it  They should stay there as a deterrant to any nuisance in our path.

Lala, I have to add though, that a REAL democracy is / should not be controlled by any military forces, good or bad, otherwise it is not called democracy. This also causes problems/cuts in real development i.e economic and not military development. It's true that there are lots of Turkish good scientists, I have met only a handful fo them who had really nice personalitities, but there is a huge amount of people that are uneducated, probably higher than any other european country.

as an Australian Greek Cypriot girl who lived in Cyprus for 5 years in my early 20's I just didnt think i could have married a Greek cypriot even though I was madly in love with one.
the ones I met just didnt treat women right and their mentality was so different to mine so I prefered to stay single much to my relatives horror
I have now being married for 6yrs to an Australian cypriot

I think Turkish, middleeastern andCypriot ment all look the same most of the time
