But nobody could’ve possibly known how infectious and lethal this virus was at the onset so most governments took drastic precautions anyway, just in case!

It’s no good coming here now armed with some hindsight, telling us that we may have overreacted because not enough people have died to justify the measures!

The question now for you and all the other “clever dicks” out there is…

Were you able to offer accurate information about this virus 3 months ago, so that governments could’ve made better-informed decisions?

The answer is NO!

So SHUT UP and be grateful that most governments have proven responsible enough to take good precautions just in case, because the next virus may not be as kind to us as this one!

Problem is that we will be going into lock down for any virus including a bad strain of flu that might come out and kill just as many people of more.

Sounds a little defensive to me Sotos ;) Sounds a bit like ignore the message because of the messenger. Sounds a bit like let's not as Cypriots consider this regardless of if other countries are better or worse, cause it may be a bit too messy ?

There is no "message".

Russia is a country that has helped us in the UN Security Council and elsewhere many times. So we are also helping them, where possible. We didn't recognize the annexation of Crimea and we are in line with EU's policies, but beyond that we obviously see in a positive way a country that has supported us on many occasions. Where is the problem in that? What is the "message"? That Cyprus should support the interests of those who are against Cyprus, like the UK? Ermm... no! If the Americans and British have an issue with the Russians or the Chinese that is their problem, not ours. And now that UK is out of the EU, I hope that the EU will develop a more independent foreign policy from that of the USA.

And as far as investments from Russia goes, again, what is the message? If Bezos or Bill Gates want to invest in Cyprus they are welcomed too. Just as the Russian money are welcomed in the UK,the Netherlands and everywhere else. So what is the message?

BTW, you seem to point a finger at the UK. Which is fine. You are allowed to.

But the insinuation that the EU is aligned with the US due to the UK is completely false. The EU has many countries which are members of the 14 eyes.

14 eyes - United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Italy, Belgium, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark, France, Sweden and Spain.

Apart from the UK, there are another 8 EU countries who are part of the 14 eyes and that still doesn't include Norway which isn't in the EU.

The reason why EU and the US and others are closely aligned is because of their history on the battlefields and also because we all generally share the same way of life and culture and are also on the liberal end of the spectrum among Nations.

You make it sound like the US has power over us and rules us benevolently. That isn't true. We chose our friends and alliances. And most of us have chosen to be friends with the US over Chy-na. It isn't difficult to work out why.

Exactly! They can throw us into lockdown for pretty much any reason from now on because Bedwetters like GR and Erlolz love it sooooo much...

I would love for all countries to have been as prepared for this outbreak as SK was. To date they have had 262 deaths and have had no need for nation wide generic lock downs. The UK has had 34,546 deaths and has shut down huge swathes of the economy. I would like countries to be as prepared for when there is another outbreak of a novel virus of lesser or greater magnitude. If it is in 10 years or 50 years or 100 years I would like them to be prepared.

Seems like plain common sense to me if your priority is protecting life spans or protecting the economy. What would you prefer CG ? That the UK ignore this virus whatever the cost in lives or to the economy might be and ignore any future such novel viruses ? Is that what you would like ? Even though we know as fact that not ignoring such, being prepared has to date resulted in the prepared countries having seen less shorten lifespans and less damage to their economies to degrees of multiple orders of magnitude ?

So when will they start infecting people on purpose, matched to their capacity to treat them, to get to herd immunity as soon as possible ?

Until three months ago no country in the world was more for sale to China than Australia. You loved the money. You sucked it up like a pop star sucking up cocaine. For at least 2 decades.

Tim Drayton wrote:My current "obsession" with big pharma is because I believe it is the force that has been running a very deliberate perception management campaign to whip up hysteria around the current epidemic with its profit at the very least as the motivation. Big pharma's tentacles are closely intertwined with the Bill Gates Foundation, one of whose main functions seems to be to promote the interests of big pharma, hence the "obsession" with Bill Gates. Otherwise, yes, it is a bigger jigsaw and there are other peices.

So the 'anti lock down' , 'virus is a hoax', 'anti vaxers' protest in the UK went ahead. With tiny numbers of people taking to the streets complete with "repeated shouts of “jail Bill Gates”" (according to reports I read).

There is a very realistic chance and reason to believe that the group promoting these protest in the UK is being funded in secret and in the dark by US far right money. Entirely possible that Koch brother money via multi covert multi layers has funded them. No doubt the Koch brother was literally laughing all the way to the bank on hearing the 'jail Bill Gates' chants. This is the problem with your approach and obsession with Bill Gates imo. Talk about going for the lowest hanging fruit, whilst doing so diverts you and everyone else you convince to miss and ignore the hidden and much more massively rotten fruit, that is vastly more dangerous and corrupting threat.
