Erdogan has worked so hard to negotiate from a position of strength. Witness his aggressive approach to Turkish Foreign Policy.

If no talk is forthcoming, from the interlocutors concerned, he may have no other choice but (more) War.

...let's remember that Turkey's Centennial (and elections) are only two years away; he wishes to build a Legacy (defining "Turkishness'') of Historic proportions.

...one hopes "We", those of us not "Turkish", understand this.

The lira seems to have broken two kinds of records today.

Despite making another new all time low, the currency has never been as volatile or devalued so much in a single day before today.

It moved 3 whole lira to the euro and 1.60 lira to the dollar.

While this was happening, Errordoagain tries to rally the country behind his cause, which is the economic war of independence. :?

He says, “I reject policies that will contract our country, weaken it, condemn our people to unemployment, hunger and poverty,”

While he is doing exactly that.

I think Erdogan has a plan to become a modern day “Robin Hood”, by getting the money from everyone and then giving it to the state. :D

The plan would be to destroy the Turkish Lira as much as possible and when people are economically hurting badly and want to cash in some of their foreign currencies to live, Erdogan would put in control by demanding people can only exchange their foreign currency through State Control institution by giving people way below market exchange rate and then use the hard foreign currency to build up the states reserves in the hopes to add value to the ailing Turkish currency. This is what can happen when stupid people give a lot of power to one man to run a country. Running it to the ground was not what they had expected. Oh well, better luck next time stupid people.

I think you are giving too much credit to Erdogan regarding the Economy. He is as thick as two short planks. When he was told about the value of the USD against TL he laughed it off saying "as if we use USD as a currency."

He simply does not understand. What he does understand is how much he can get out of corporations for favours and build himself an empire. He is actually very sick and may not even live till the next election or at least not be able to campaign during it.

The lira is just an extreme example. All fiat currencies are on the spectrum mate. You think its crazy that Turkey has a base rate of 15% when inflation is over 20% ? You think sterling is any different ? Base rate 0.1 %, official inflation rate 4.2% and real inflation much worse with way way way more to come. You think your euros are safe ? You think central banks care about you ? You think they are protecting you ? Dream on my friend. Central banks everywhere are not protecting people , they are trying to protect a system. You feel sorry for ordinary Turks being at the whim of a nutter like Erdogan. Well my friend your wealth when held in euros or any other fiat is destroyed at the whim of central bankers just the same.
