How much is........

Postby VEX8 » Fri Jan 27, 2006 3:28 pm

Ok people. Let's talk Turkey (oops). How much is stuff in Cyprus these days. Has the cost of stuff risen sharply in the last few years? Stuff like basic foods; bread, milk, Southern Comfort ? I've read differing opinions in this forum, some say goods are expensive, some say cheap. Are the expesive items the imported stuff ? Can i eat well with local produce (hopefully)? Let me know peeps. Ta.

Hi VEX

Well 'the best things in life are free'; not quite - but in Cyprus but they are pretty cheap: alcohol/cigarettes/eating out/drinking out/petrol/enjoying the beach/climate/friendly people.

Imported goods and cars are expensive.

After the the horror stories I hear from people about the cost of living in the UK, you will find most of Cyprus living cheap - but wages are low. Your job will not be well paid here, unfortunately.

Lana PS Southern Comfort will be expensive but the local equivelant will not; Brandy is about £5 a litre as a guide.

Local equivallent to Southern Comfort? I dare say it has a different name for fear of offending the north? So local produce is fairly priced? I know Cypriot wages are low but it's all relative. I'm not a ' must be Kellogs Cornflakes and Heinz Baked Beans' Brit. I'm actually hoping to improve my diet with more fresh produce and fruit and veg grown locally, so with that in mind can the cost of living be managed with a Cypriot wage?

Hi Vex

As I am replying to this and not toasting my ass in Barbados you may have correctly guessed I did not win the lottery on Wednesday

Will find out prices of Southern Comfort next time Im topping up the Bacardi supplies but other stuff is as follows(and in Cyp pounds)
Milk 60c a litre
Local bread - varies but less than £1 (english type bread is frozen and more expensive at around £1.30 a loaf)
Fruit and Veg - SOOOOOO much tastier than in UK and generally cheaper but it does fluctuate according to season.
Meat - pork seriously cheap compared to UK, other meats a bit cheaper too.
Beans -hee hee that old Brit favourite - Heinz anywhere up to a quid a tin but the shops own ones rate much higher according to fussy kid.

As Lana says eating out is cheaper than there, when I went back last month I nearly passed out as it cost £125 for a meal for 4 of us and it wasnt that great - and we didnt drink!!!

Hope this helps

poor old me :D

Interpol know her only as Praying Mantis, the CIA have a dossier on her 4 inches thick with the code name Stilletto, the AIVD (formelly BVD) know her as Viper, but the MI5 file, granted it has a tea cup sized brown ring stain on the cover, has the most up to date information on her and has her spying for AOL in Cyprus,. aiding in it's bid for world domination. But i could be wrong.......

It all depends what you want to it and where you go to eat it! :) Fresh vegs are quite cheaper and a lot tastier than the ones you will find in the uk, forget the usual baked beans and try the black eyed or the normal beans.
