Migrants, a very Cypriot story.

Postby repulsewarrior » Sun Dec 12, 2021 5:48 am

...something to think about, the never ending story, our movement around this planet earth, driven for the most part by our greatest enemies, to leave our homes with hope for houses somewhere safe. Cyprus is a cross-road, and it is to be expected that here, we will find such people who are no different to many of us displaced, except for their person, as individuals no different in need. Indeed, if we can define ourselves as Citizens of the World, we are better People for it.

Universal Principles, a Rule of Law; what is it "we" want?

Who are we as Cypriots, but great facilitators of exchange.

And, let's not ignore Cyprus as an ethnos, neither "Greek" or "Turkish": as old as the Jews or older; those who loved this place stayed and nurtured it.

So it is today, the plague of Ignorance, manmade, festers with growing malice. It is as the Pope says, that he came here to say it.

Freedom, to be Free means overcoming our fears; to be loving: what conquers all.

...yes, we are the navel of the world (with everyone looking at us).

And for what? America wanted to overthrow Assad and put a puppet in. Same with Iraq, they had a puppet there but he got too big in his boots so he had to be removed too.

THis is capitalism claoked as democracy.

And there are those who say these people are here to sponge off the state. Do these people really have a choice to stay where they were?

Of all people Cypriots should understand their plight because to this day young Cypriots themselves are moving away because they have no hope where they are.

These people created a disaster for themselves and for Cyprus.

Cyprus doesnt have the capacity to accommodate them all and their isnt enough jobs on such a small island.

According to statistics, 85% of asylum claims are bogus anyway.

They only ended up in Cyprus because they caught a flight on a tourist visa to Turkey, then tried to illegally cross in to the EU.

Its reached the point where Cyprus has considered suspending all future requests for asylum due to the burden.

This form of migration must be stopped and in the end, this gentleman will probably accept a voluntary repatriation back to his country of origin. Which says it all.

...while Cyprus has more migrants per capita (at 5%) compared to the other EU members (<1%), it is a crossroad to three continents.

Welcoming in nature, Cypriots respect hard work, or at least they did when hard work was a part of their regimen too. There is no reason to refuse a man hard work in such need of work.

...indeed, it is a lot to ask from Cypriots alone to carry their integration into an entirely new life, but it does not excuse hateful notions which make their lives more miserable and their success impossible, here.

While we face our greatest adversary, Turkey, the "soft" war they practice in Cyprus, these migrants and their integration into the Cypriot ethnos better secures good relations, respect, and trust, toward the Cypriot cause elsewhere and in their Homeland(s).

...like it or not, Cypriots are facilitators of exchange; to survive this must continue to be central to our motivations.

...i recall the gang we were at St. Mary's, a Hospital that i worked at as a much younger man. Black as coal Mazny was from Nigeria, i can't remember the Phillipino's name, Bernard a Quebecois who spoke Classical Greek, and me, all of us Hellenes if you will, having fun "being" Greeks, as Greeks speaking Greek our pleasure even at work; in an English and/or French environment. Only in Canada you say? (Why not in Cyprus?) And while it is hard to imagine, for Mazny at least, Greek, speaking it most surely saved his life, giving him the chance to escape aboard that/a ship, the one with the Greek Captain. Of course Canada is a great country because Canadians respect a Rule of Law which is based on the Universal Principles defining us as Individuals; as a People, also defined by their diversity as Persons representing people from all over the world, it is far more complex. And it is not an ugly world where in our cities, the choices we have go far beyond English, and North American fare because unlike the USA, (the BBF as a melting pot), Canada as a BBF is more a mosaic.

...Cyprus is an island, and as such isolated; a contradiction in terms of mobility, so well situated as a hub.

...an illegal migrant is one thing, one given asylum is another, never mind citizens who struggle because they are "different" and not "Greek"; treated badly i suppose, each has their own level of shame: ignorance is Ignorance in any case.

If one looks at the figures of where these people are, it will be obvious that these are no ordinary migrants but have been forced to leave their homeland to make a living by the interests of the western corporations.

We should be able to see this clearly as we ourselves suffered this, forced to leave our homeland in the interest of western powers from WW2 to this day.
