If this effort has been carefully organised, it will demonstrate that the Labour Unions in Cyprus can improve the quality of labour and the quality of work. Big business, hoteliers, developers, and manufacturers, need unionised labour as a matter of fact, provided that Unions are a force which provides workers well skilled as a factor of production.

...a big step for Cypriots; they just don't know it yet.

Spot on RW. 8000 people joining a GC Union and no threats from the fascists.

Of course the other 2000 TC that are working in the South have no Union membership.

My friend works in the south and lives there too and yet he is not allowed to join the teachers union on account that only GC can join it.

I am actually very happy, and I will write my comments later.

Out of nowhere, I'm seeing 8000 x €30 = €240,000 going into the syndicate's kitty!

These are jobs for which they used to import ex Eastern Europeans each on private contract. Generally nobody joins a Trade Union working on minimum salary.

This is the most important aspect of this scheme. They have Union protection and my understanding is that the Union has a lot of say who the employers can employ.

This is a win win for everybody.

That's true. For example a waiter at a hotel starts at certain salary, however a barman gets more. The starting salaries have been agreed with the Unions, so nobody can be exploited. Generally the employers abide to the agreements, because when the won't they get expelled from their own "employers Union" and then have big problems finding personnel.

...indeed, if you plan to open up a hotel(s) in 2023 (or whenever beyond these restrictions); ideally you would like to make one phone call, to fulfill your staffing needs.

A Union, providing manpower, in competition with other Labour Pools, provides the qualifications to their members (through education) that they require to perform the best practices of their Trades, as well as jobs, and job security, they also provide the numbers of employees such an enterprise needs: clients may pay a premium for these individuals' time (as, they (the workers) pay a premium being classed) but everyone gets what they pay for, it's social-economics.

...this is big, just as i said, but we don't know it yet. No more, a Person, but as Individuals, judged.

The fascists are on the move starting to spread lies they will be made to clean toilets etc. But at least there are no threats, not that threats will work today. They are not in control as they were back in the 50s and 60s.
