A long holiday sounds great, and not having to pay council tax, even better :) but how do you plan to survive?

Do you rent or own a property?

hello

My name is Sandra and Ive just read your email. i too was a further education college teacher(business, tourism and english language) in glasgow and edinburgh and am moving to cyprus for a few months in March. What are you going to do in Cyprus? Are you moving there for any amount of time? Is there much work there?

I knew two teachers at aberdeen college, one called marion who taught tourism and another woman, whose name escapes me, who taught secretarial/admin/computing or something.

Anyway, just replied to say hello

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for the message.

Not sure exactly what I’m going to do, but hopefully get some sort of job in IT/Computing or even teaching if possible.

Looking to move there on a long-term basis, if everything works out!

I’ve just check the staff directory for anyone called Marion, there are 2 names listed but nothing to do with tourism.

What are you planning to do during your time there, holiday or work?

Take a look at the EU employment website http://europa.eu.int/eures/
Occasionally IT and teaching jobs come up, salaries vary but are normally at the higher end of Cypriot pay scales.

Alternatively work as a self employed consultant for any of the growing number of consultancy businesses in Cyprus. Work is mostly in and around the Middle East and Cyprus makes an excellent home base, earnings can be high by both Cyprus and UK standards. Working in places like Bahrain Abu Dhabi or Dubai and staying in five star hotels is no hardship. Once established you can pick and choose where and when you work.
