PROBLEMS WITH I CHOICE ADSL (CYTA) IN LCA VILLAGES

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Postby pg » Tue Feb 21, 2006 11:22 pm

All the i-choice customers on the exchange is sharing the bandwidth back to i-choice in Nicosia, where they hand it over to different ISPs.

If everything works fine 'off-hours' and if everyone in the village has the same issues, then there is not enough bandwidth going back to Nicosia.

That is exactly what i have been trying to tell cyta but they dont seem to understand so i filed a complaint.
A couple of days later i got a rude employee call me up and proceed to SHOUT at me thinking i had no background knowledge on adsl services. During his rant he blamed the problem on my computer, then on my connection then on google(!?!?!?!?!?) then on external servers abroad. Seeing as i dont appreciate being spoken to in that way, i spoke to the highest manager available at the time in nicosia, whom had 5 different crews at my house the following morning after my complaint against the service.
How can i prove that its cyta responsible for this and NOT my computers or modem? Every time i run the speed test for i choice and cyta(which are useless beyond recognition as they are only flash software measuring the speed between local servers) it always comes up good. The problems start when trying to load up overseas websites like the bbc or skynews etc..
CYTAS RESPONSE TO THIS? Its the websites. :(

I remember a problem I had some time ago with the crap Ecl modems fro ADSL.... I was getting disconnected quite often adn without any reason and I had to switch off and on the modem... This becoming more and more often... I got pissed after some time, so I called CYTA. Their response was that there was a problem with Win SP2 and I had to uninstall SP2, which is off course the worst thing to do on your pc as it is usually the case that most of the win important files are corrupted afterwards. Fortunately I did not believe them and after several calls, explaining the problem to different call center persons I was receiving the same answer, "your problem is due to SP2 and we cannot anything..." Unfortunately for them, my patience comes to an end slowly but when its over, I'm getting very ...aggresive... I had informed the manager there that the next day they would receive a letter from a solicitor for paying damages for loss of work etc.... a couple of days later they came with a solution..... guess what; the problem was their modems that were not compatible with Win Service Pack 2 and they did not know it and/or nobody searched to find the patch available, which I had already found on the net... I had asked for a replacement of the modem and not the uploading of the patch s/w to the modem.... It's been now more than a year that the modem "flies"...

Nope modems fine its been checked..
Like i say cyta insisted nothing was wrong. Then after the serious complaint i made crews turned up to the house and replaced every wire from the modem right through to the exchange, and still NO LUCK.
The only thing it can be now is limited bandwidth in the village. Perhaps they underestimated the high demand during the initial setup of the i choice service and so limited the bandwidth into and out of that particular exchange?
what do you people think?

The problems start when trying to load up overseas websites like the bbc or skynews etc..

If it is like this then it might be a problem of your ISP. Which one are you using? I hope not Netrunner!

yes am with i choice netrunner with cyta. I dont think it would make any difference going with another isp as they all run through cyta bandwidth. TAHTS THE PROBLEM WHEN A COMPANY HOLDS MONOPOLY ON SOMETHING.

You said your problem was with overseas websites. Cyta is used by most ISPs for the banwidth within Cyprus. Each ISP has its own overseas connections. Go to www.cytanet.com.cy and try their speed test. If that one is not as slow as the rest then it is probably a netrunner problem.

The bandwidth test there is internal, so it won't say much.

Make a request to CyTA to move the line to a different pair and to check for any "Bridge Taps"

Hey guys and thank you so much for all your helps. I thought it may be helpful guidance to you if i posted the bandwidth results for i choice and cyta as taken this morning when the connection was fine and then again just a little while ago when the connectin is at its usual standard for the afternoon:

This morning……………….. i-choice band meter -1,139.7

Cytanet band meter - 997.6

This evening i-choice band meter -1,057.6 (rarely drops below 750 overall averages 850-1000)

Cytanet band meter - 247.8

Hope this helps ??
Cytanet looks a bit low? Yet of course CYTA maintain that all is ok,,,,,,
