Postby Marinos » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:32 am

Hi to all..

Im in Melbourne Australia and thinking of taking my 2000 BMW 540 4.6 v8 to Cyprus.
I was born in Limassol but lived my whole life in Australia. Moving back to Cyprus permanently is on the cards and i want to take it .

Hi Marinos, if you troll through the forum you will find your query is asked on a regular basis. My understanding is that it is not worth bringing your car with you, import taxes are crippling. I am coming over next week and have sold both my cars rather than pay about £4000 each in tax, the tax is calculated on engine size so your 4.6 V8 will be pricey . All the best , Invicta

Thanks for that info Invicta.
I want to try and bring it because it is an immaculate vehicle and practicaly new 15,000 km. I think to buy one similar in Cyp would be quite expensive ,so i am doing my homework to see of it is worth bringing.
Appreciate your input and will be checking out your info.

Also wanting to bring my Harley2005 so will enquire which one if any is a better option.

Dear Marinos, hold on! I am moving from Hong Kong in May to Cyprus. I have been told by an official with the Department of Customs and Excise in Cyprus that if this is a permanent move and your car has over 60,000 Kilometres, you can import one for each relocating driver. I am in the midst of trying to get this in writing for my relocation company as we want to bring our cars to Cyprus.

If you can wait a few days (Cyprus time) I will try to get back to you on this. Alternatively, you can attempt to contact them directly. The rules listed on the site (so I am told) pertain to importing a car in addition to that already imported during the time of relocation.

Hi Maewing, thanks for your information.
I am not getting to Cyprus till mid year so i can wait to get an answer from you, if you dont mind.

It would be very interesting and great if there is some sort of exemption for Cypriot born individuals returning to Cyprus for permanent residents to bring a vehicle and save a substantial amount of money.

You can also contact me via email [email protected]

Hi Marinos, I believe that if you are into such high power cars its worth bringing it here, otherwise it will cost you more to buy a new one at the same class, eg new BMW 540. BTW, nice colour, nice alloys, but you need a better quality wax!!! Try Zaino products...

Hi Maewing, thanks for your information.

The situation is (or was) different for returning Cypriots who were born in Cyprus, contact the Cypriot High Commission in Australia nd get the exact cost that your car will cost you.

Thanks for your input Cabbie..
i will try to call them. So many different laws etc.. dont know who to believe.
Last thing i need is to bring it to Cyp and end up with a ridiculous figure in the 10s of thousands.
Regards Marinos

ps.Hows Paralimni going? One of my favourite spots was Cape Greco in 02/03. Best beach there i think was kornos.. miss it..

The road tax on a 745i is CY£506! Believe me, big cars can cost you big bucks here, in terms of Import Duty and Raod Tax.
