north in famagusta? don;t you have to go to the checkpoint in nicosia first to be able to get down there, or is there an closer checkpoint i dont know about?

There's a checkpoint at Pyla which is about a 20minute drive from Salamis. You will have to show your passport, towel and suncream.

What about the beach at Geroskipou, or doesn't that count as Paphos?

I think the geroskipou beach is the same as that of the CTO Plage???

I think it all depends on what one considers as a nice beach. As I am more into natural rather than man made settings, I am not hot on the beaches in the south part of Paphos, which as a rule have waver breakers. There are better ones in the west coast, but one needs to be careful as there may be currents and there are big waves frequently.

If you like check www.natureofcyprus.org for info on Paphos beaches, Ayia Napa beaches, and in fact almost all beaches in the south. You can also search for beaches within X distance from a particular resort/town.
