US military action against Iran

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

The silliest thing I heard is "why should Israel have nukes and Iran not"? This, when it comes from the Greeks or Cypriots, sounds really pathetic. If we do not like the west and what it stands for, we should get out of the EU and NATO. It is difficult to get into these institutions but it is dead easy to get out. We can so easily switch alliances and move in with Bin Laden or any one of the fanatics that want to ruin this world. But, to remain steadfast with the west and to critisise their actions is totally pathetic and irresponsible.

Some of us Bananiot are objective and fair and do not support double standards. Maybe for you the question "why should Israel have nukes and Iran not" is a silly one. To me it is a very logical one because I am not a double standards supporter.

If Iran is so bad and evil, then why we, Russia or China are not afraid, and who is afraid is USA on the other end of the world? The answer is obvious: Because we know that Iran would be no more dangerous than the other countries that already have nuclear weapons. USA doens't want more countries to have nuclear weapons because those countries will then be more able to defend themselves and it would make it harder for the Americans to push them around.

Piratis dont kid yourself. If Iran developed nuclear cababilities you can kiss your arse goodbye. They would not hesitate to drop a missile on the British bases in Cyprus , or any where else for that matter. What is it with my fellow countrymen having so much love and admiration for nations with which we have absolutely nothing in common. We share Americas values we share Brittains values , but Iraq or Iran ? As for Blair being Americas lapdog , how I wish that years ago Makarios had been the US's lapdog, MAYBE Turkey would not be in Cyprus today. Think of that.

ALso these regimes who have these nuclear weapons should stay clearly the puprose of them! Dont you think ? No one spends money to do something with no purpose!

Is it for defence in case of an attack or something else? This "something else" should be investigated further! An Audit investigation is necesary!

57% Amercians support such an action according to sources from FT.

WASHINGTON - Despite persistent disillusionment with the war in Iraq, a majority of Americans supports taking military action against Iran if that country continues to produce material that can be used to develop nuclear weapons, a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found.

The poll, conducted Sunday through Wednesday, found that 57% of Americans favor military intervention if Iran's Islamic government pursues a program that could enable it to build nuclear arms.

I have never heard of a more irresponsible argument than the one put forward by Piratis on the nukes. For Piratis it is okay for all countries that wish to have nukes to do so, because America and a few other countries have them. Man, have a pity on this poor planet and climb down the morality high grounds for a change because this is farcical to say the least.

I do not support a military strike against Iran but if this country fails to respond to the UN demands, a military strike must be made as a very last resort to put an end to its nuclear aspirations.

Bananiot , I couldnt have put it better my self. The state , any state allows its citizens to be in control of leathal weapons ,provided a license is obtained , be it for a shotgun , hand gun or in the case of young Cypriots a motor vehicle . All of these can cause death and destruction. You do not allow irresponsible individuals who have publicly stated their commitment to destroying an entire race the privilage of being in the position to do so. Countries such as these must never be allowed to acquire the ultimate weapon .
Above all CYPRUS,S INTERESTS.

Well, I have just heard on the news that even Russia has come up against Iran's aquiring nuclear weapons. Obviously, the Russians did not ask Piratis for his opinion first. On a more serious note, there is an ongoing anti americanism in Cyprus, mainly due to AKEL's and the extreme right's rhetoric. Many people, including respectable and well meaning people, seem to think that America (and Britain) are to be blamed for all our ailments. This of course is not supported historically and suffices to say, the Yanks saved our ass twice in the 60's, first in 1964 and then in 1968. It was third time unlucky in 1974 but even today we prove to be very slow learners. You would be surprised how many people subscribe to Piratis's view on this one. Can't really blame them, our political culture is almost non existent and this is also proved by the fact that we put our fate in the hands of a man from the sixties who basically is part of our problem.

Bananiot you are 100% correct and I do hope that your views are shared by the indigenous folk at large.
It seems to me that historically , America bore the brunt of hostile criticism whenever blame had to be apportioned . AMERICANICO DAXTILO , a narrative so popular in the Hellenic world .
As for AKEL , Im certain that its contribution to the welfare state of Cyprus is beyond criticism.
What I find shortsighted , unforgivable , and detrimental to the intersts of Cyprus is it's blatant anti American stand. It is sending out the message that America is our enemy and responsible for all misdemeanours that have afflicted our nation since independence.
Long live Cyprus and all its inhabitants.
