Second car in Cyprus

Postby Supertrotter » Tue Jun 13, 2006 10:47 am

We will be bringing our pride and joy with us when we move, but will also need a second car when we get to Cyprus.

Instead of bringing our other car with us, I would rather buy one there and at least start to contribute to the economy!

I am aware of the duty system based on cc, therefore have identified a couple of interim options:

Either a Mazda RX-8 or a Mini Cooper S

What cars do forum members own, and does anyone have any idea how much these two would cost new, or used?

What is car insurance like in CY? How does it compare to the UK?

Many thanks

Hi,

I have a Kia Picanto and my husband has a Kia Rio. The insurance on mine which was bought new is 200cyp, but that is for the whole hog, (claims protection, earthquake damage) things you wouldn't normally get with fully comp. The Rio is 3 years old and ins was 155cyp fully comp.

Rx-8 are very cheap in cyprus, and mini cooper S very expensive.

Rx8 in cyprus is poser's car and this car drink a lot.

For the mini cooper S i think you must buy a brand new, impossible to find a personalize one in used. like if you want a beige with the 2 black line.

I cant tell you for the insurance, but its very cheap, they ask 500€ for a Z4 3.0liter new. (American home)

I cannot compare with UK, but compare with paris its very cheap.

 RX-8 is a posers car in Cyprus, eh?

I think they are great as it's classed as a 1300cc = minimal duty.

I know they are thirsty, and you have to check the oil every 2nd fuel fill up but I love the look of it. As you have to check the oil, I would only buy new or used from Mazda dealer with warranty as back up.

Insurance in UK for our Range Rover Sport is UK£700 p.a. which isn't bad. Anything less than that for Cyprus is a bonus!

Thanks for your help!

Had a mini cooper s. Bought for 17,000 sold for 13,000. Had it over 2 years. Was my pride and joy. They cost around 15,000 now with the full chilli package. The insurance was fully comp around 300 per year. (I am over 25...a bit)

CY£15,000 is less than RX-8.

Food for thought! Thanks for the info! :D

But which rx8 192bhp or 231bhp ? I ve got some problem to compare in france a used one(231) with 20 000km is 18,000£ and I saw one in nicosia 12,000£ with 20 000km and the GPS inside ( lol ) but 192?

My girlfriend would buy a red RX8 at the begining but i still cannot imagine a girl in a RX8 :\

If its for your wife mini is better, but maybe its because you want play with the car and leave your diesel :P

Blonde....would have to be 231!

RRSport at the moment is actually my wifes car and I have the BMW.

The RX-8 would be a second car for either of us and driving in Cypriot towns and villages would be easier in Cooper S/RX-8.

Je ne sais pas! C'est difficile. Je voudrais un autre RRSport mais ce n'est pas sensible! Si je peux attendre 2ans, j'achete un RRSport Supercharged aussi!

I have no idea if this makes any sense.............. :D

supertrotter

I have 2 cars, a Subaru Forester S/Tb bought in cyprus and an Imported Lotus 7 with Kawasaki zx12r engine...

If you havent owned and insured the car for 6 months, and dont have proof of residence and job in another EU country when you import the car you will pay import duites...

Mine were cyp£650 for the lotus..

Cars are expensive in cyprus, especially second hand... the upside is the insurance is very cheap... cyp£270 for my Scoob, comprehensive, with zero no-claims bonus and one accident (age 41)

:D
