Not to worry, the posts in Greek were not about the invasion.

No Deniz. The coastal heavy weaponry was never in place all the time during peace time. According to the plans they were to be placed there as soon as there would be a warning of an invasion. And that was reasonable. The NG could not have its heavy weaponry spread for miles all along Perntadactylos and the northern shores during peace time. Other forces though (infantry mainly) were used not against the coupists but to clear enclaves instead of being sent to the coast against the bridgehead or even before one was formed. You will find the relevant facts even in the report of the CY parliament about the invasion.

If you refer to infantry batalions I agree.

and to add I wouldnt consider the junta officers in any way Greeks, they were offshoots of the Greek civil war who didnt think twice about killing their own in the mountains of northern Greece..they betrayed Hellinismo in Greece and in Cyprus.

I have a lot of objections on the previous but the Greek "civil war" is way off topic. Very interesting though. A thread on it would also be interesting.

@kimon...i agree with you about Eldyk and other mainland forces fighting for Cyprus, but how long did it take for the ROC and the government of Greece to awknowledge them as heroes who fought and died for Cyprus? (just recently)as a matter of fact.

Did the Greek government recognized them? Don't think so. No pensions, no indemnities to families yet I think.

As in a vision I see Graecus,
He speaks to me in the ancient tongue;
And I understand his every word:
Thus I know I am his true son...

To Thermopylae I am called,
To fight and die beside my kin;
In Marathon it was also my voice
That cheered at the enemy's demise...

I held the standard of Constantine
And shed my blood for the empire;
I went a' hunting with Digenees
And wept on Tuesday 1453...

I swore upon the Revolution's flag
Freedom or death - woe to the Turks!
I was free yet even when besieged:
On Suli's rock our maidens danced...

I faced alone Wehrmacht's iron might
And put the Duce's troops to flight;
For freedom I have fought twice ten times
And fight again I will if needed be!

Hellas is eternal as long as
There's a heart that pumps Hellenic blood
And arms the hand that freedom defends
And punishes those who would see HER dead!
