Radical actions for a Solution.

Postby Nickp » Wed Feb 09, 2005 1:03 pm

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the GC administration took drastic actions to facilate their own solution for the re-estalbishment of the ROC.

For example, include Turkish Cypriots into the governement and the leading party. Also, to set up an administration to handle affairs for the TC's in the south. Encourage TC's in the north to claim their properties back in the south. Encourage the GC's to take down the Greek flags and only fly their Cypriot flags. Start to employ TC police. Reprint, all the roadsigns with the added language of Turkish. Adapt the two airports and Cyprus airways to cater for Turkish Cypirots. Encourage, TC's in Europe to emigrate back to Cyprus.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if this action was taken over a five year period. Is it too radical to ask?

If TCs were made to feel like they belong to the RoC then everything would have been different. Papadopoulos had this chance when the borders first opened. He could have made TCs feel welcomed in the RoC by implementing something like what you described. But what he did was to provide the bare minimums, like giving ID cards and healthcare so he could still tell the word that the RoC represents TCs as well.

I am sure if the TC's demanded to re-enter the RoC then there is very little to stop that happening. Apart from Turkey that is! Instead of pointing fingers at Papadopoulos perhaps you need to point them closer to home.

Actually, Turkish Cypriot Nation is a constitutive element on the island of Cyprus, not a simple minority that Greek Cypriots give away some rights and take back whenever they want.

A solution does not mean the acceptance of a Greek Cypriot Administration with special minority rights for the TCs as the "Cyprus Republic".

If what you were trying to mean was paving the path to resurrecting the Cyprus Republic, then you must see, after the events of 1963-1974, the chances of that actually happening is zero.

The solution is not to force the two alienated communities to live like they did 41 years ago as if nothing has happened.

In the future, there'll probably be days when people see each other as human beings or at least as cypriots but until then, you can not wait from people that suffered enormously just because they were turkish cypriots to welcome a unitary/monozonal state.

A monozonal and unitary approach to the Cyprus problem will surely alienate the Turkish Cypriot Nation that has suffered enormously as a result of the Greek Cypriot Leadership's Greed in achieving those which even also had paved the way for the suffering of the greek cypriot community.

As if the Greek Cypriots haven't sufferd either.

The Turkish Cypriot Nation, created from stolen property and land, ethnic cleansing, physical terror (mass rapes and executions) etc. I am sure you are a very proud man Turkcyp.

Yes, you're right. Turkey probably does not want TCs to return to the RoC either. But this doesn't change what I said aboutPapadopoulos' intentions. The status quo in the north feeds the status quo in the south and vice versa.

Yes, these are bare minimums given by Papadopoulos in order to continue his claim that the RoC represents TCs. Did he ever take any steps in encouraging TCs to get involved in the decision-making in the RoC? No, because that's not what he wants. He wants TCs to return back to the RoC without the special privileges, justl like 1000 or so TCs living in the south right now.
