That's because you know not. So what do you actually suppose? that the Ottomans found a red light special and bought parts of Cyprus?

The Ottomans wrested control of the island from the Venetians. Cyprus was run by a series of foreign feudal rulers ever since it was taken by Richard the Lionheart in 1191. If you consider the legitmate owners of Cyprus to be the rulers at the time of the Ottoman conquest, perhaps the island should revert to Italy!

GG - don't expect you thought your thread about visit to Cyprus would degenerate into a discussion about the relative merits of porridge flavourings. This forum can take some unexpected turns!

 i'd rather have this thread hijacked into a discussion about porrage rather than who was on the island first.

Note to Pantheman: don't worry, i won't be writting any diary about my experiences here. although i may ask some questions later....

It is sad that GG is under the influence. She ought to be neutral and see the other side too. Tut tut tut.

Would people stop writing "dairy" if they mean "diary" . . . . I can't visit Birks' "dairy" thread for that very reason . . .

If you are going to keep a record of events you have to write:

diary . . . . . . diary . . . . . diary.

Thank you :D
