PS...and deniz no dirty jokes about the swallowing, you hear?

Boomers! Me and dirty jokes? Well I never.

Anyway, I hope an English translation of thre Uludag interview appears soon, or else we could do it (relevant sections) as a joint effort. I have yet to finish reading this thread. Lets see what transpires.

Boomers, Halil is only trying to be helpful. I thank him. There is not a lot in the 'interview' but nevertheless, more than seen anywhere else.

Thanks Tim, much appreciated, but as with most diaspora people, our reading and understanding of our native language has long time abandoned us...

Butthis thread is about unearthing as Halil said...He said there were discussions everyday from both sides in a newspaper...and this is what I was asking for...what hallil published...

About the mistrust well that is normal, considering that if you get arrested in the nth, as DT's father law has, youget the full treatment...

Still pretty silly, that a hostage was required never the less, coz if the man was arrested, what was to happen to the hostage?...end of the day he commited no crime in the RoC...

Thanks for the book info, I will search tomorrow and try to purchase it...

Thanks Deniz...my main concern is to by pass all the propanga BS and start documenting events...as facts...I believe it is needed in order to get to feel the pain of each other...heal the wounds and then we might have that elusive unification everyone is craving about...Its all about trust

And I am afraid we need to start from the bottom up...

Missing Persons Committee also informing by the people.

I believe that Sevgül Uludağ should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for this work she is doing. This kind of process is necessary so that the ghost of the past can finally be be buried.

Tim, are there any published documents yet? ...as Hallil says they are published every day and for some strange reason his unable to cut&paste them?

As Halil says, these articles have been appearing regularly in the CTP's newspaper for some time now; for several years I think. Sometimes she simply interviews ordinary Cypriot people about life in the past, and sometimes she tries to unearth the truth about missing people. Essentially both of these involve tapping into the collective memory of ordinary Cypriot people and I think her work is of immense value. She is typical of her generation in that she is equally fluent in Greek and Turkish, and I find all of her writing to be objective and balanced.

Surely some of these articles must be appearing in Greek translation in the GC press. Perhaps somebody can enlighten me on that point.

I have the 7 January edition of Yeni Düzen to hand, and in it there is a moving article in which she describes how she finally managed to pursuade a GC, who wished to remain anonymous, to travel to the north and show two now middle-aged TCs where their fathers lie buried. One of them was two years and the other three months old when they lost their father.

What strikes me is that this GC only finally agreed to travel to the north on condition that a TC hostage be left in the village in the south to guarantee his safe return. This request was complied with. This really strikes home to me how much distrust there still is between the two communities even though so many years have passed. This is something that outsiders who want to see a solution really need to take on board.

I don't know how many people are aware that Sevgül Uludağ has published a book entitled "Oysters that have lost their pearls" containing interviews with both TCs and GCs who had direct experiences of events connected with the mass graves. This book has been published in both Turkish and Greek; if you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you can see a picture of the cover of the Greek language version:

I warn you: it is pretty gruesome reading.
