POLITICAL EQUALITY IS CRUCIAL FOR TURKISH CYPRIOTS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Sat May 31, 2008 1:10 pm

This will make Piratis's hair stand on end.

Metron Analysis has published the results of a big survey it performed three months after the presidential elections. With Christofias in charge, 65.4% of Greek Cypriots want a solution based on BBF and equal partnership of the two communities. 28% opted for the solution of two independed countries.

Thus, the majority has spoken and according to the logic exhibited by Piratis, the majority is always correct. Any calls for a different solution is thus treacherous.

Bananiot is that all they said?....

How about you post here the questions they asked...polls are a waste of time if they don't ask the right questions...

I said to you before I am not objecting to 2 states...What I do object is calling them greek and turkish crap...why not north and south?

If we are going to unify the island once and for all why not do it properly and install a Cypriot identity...

It will bond everyone as a one...

Bananiot ,
world supports BBF solution .

here is the latest from EU as well Both sides can says different things some times for their public just to satisfay some ......... !!!! but the way we are going to will be BBF at the end as far as i can see.

“The EU stands behind a renewed UN process,” Nagy said.

She said the Commission welcomed the meeting of the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus on May 23.

“Their joint statement shows that the process towards a settlement of the Cyprus issue under UN auspices is well under way. It is a positive sign that the leaders agree on the basic parameters of a united Cyprus as a ‘bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, as defined by relevant Security Council resolutions’. This statement speaks for itself, it is not up to the Commission to interpret it,”

rest can be read from Cyprus mail.

Kikapu, I am sorry if I let you down. I have been extremely busy of late and perhaps I missed some of your posts.

The "virgin birth" issue is not important in my opinion. Kasoulides has claimed on this issue that it was the Greek Cypriot side that created the issue of virgin birth in the first place in 2004. I was listening to him on the radio the other day where he claimed that the Annan Plan stated that the seat of the RoC at the UN would remain after the solution and no new application would be needed to be made. Also, the agreement treaty for the creation of the RoC would stand as well as the accession to the EU agreement. Furthermore, all agreements (bilateral and multilateral) made by the RoC would still stand. Then, some clever sod (you can guess who) from the Greek Cypriot side, who did not view the Annan Plan very positively, came up with the "virgin birth" idea because two agreements made by the "TRNC" and Turkey would still stand after solution.

Hence, the Greek side basically started the issue of parthenogenesis in the first instance and the Turksih side were swift to exploit it.

In the beginning I said the this issue is not a serious one. It will be addressed in due time, if we move closer to a solution. It will be addressed by the content of the solution plan. Provided that the solution reiterates the agreement for the establishmant of the RoC, the position at the UN and the European Council, then no new application will need to be made.

If the Turkish side insists on parthenogenesis, then, not even the guarantee agreements would stand. Turkey will seize to be a Guarantor country, along with Britain and Greece. The British Base will have no legal status and the automatic entry of TC's to the EU will be hindered.

Really, there are more pressing issues to be debated.

Virgin birth seems to have been sidestepped by the Talat himself in the interview posted at the top of this thread when he said that Turkey has a right to keep 650 troops on the island as per the 1960 treaty of establishment.

Obviously Talat is not taking the status of Cyprus as an independent country seriously. If he is concerned about security he could have asked for 1500 Special TC soldiers as a standing army for the north. This insistence on foreign soldiers remaining on Cyprus is a double insult for the GCs, once because they must accept Turkish troops, twice because they must accept Greek troops.

Anyone here willing to bet that in both contingents there will be intelligence officers? And what do you think army intelligence does in peace time folks? It prepares plans for war, that is what they do. And we insist that this state of affairs should be enshrined in our new constitution. We are behaving like assholes, again! We deserve what we get, since we ask for it!

Will the agreement for 2 SBAs still remain in force if we proceed with a virgin birth? I find this very interesting as president X said a few weeks ago that if the solution is based on a virgin birth, the 1959 Zurich agreement which also provided the UK with 2 very valuable and strategic assets on the south of the island will also be null and void.

I would like to know how the British will react to this and whether they may oppose the virgin birth as a result due to the fact that a question mark will hang over the validity of the SBAs.

I think there is a little more to President X that what most on this forum realise. Perhaps many of us have underestimated his abilities. It could be that President X is playing a very clever game of chess with the Turks and will later move in for checkmate after stirring the interests of other powers to eventually get what he wants and to destroy the virgin birth idea.

It is really frustrating to hear people talk about the form of the solution as if we are the only player in this issue. Some people seriously believe that we can get anything we ask, as long as we remain steadfast. This shows gross ignorance on how this world is run.

Why don't you give us some examples VP, where the majority voted as a "block" against a minority, when all the political parties colluded with each other to bring harm to one ethnicity over another in this day and age and particularly in the EU club. In the first place, such a move would be against the constitution if such a move would be against someones Human Rights as well as other constitutional rights, so stop blowing hot air in the wind VP. You just hate the idea of True Democracy for Cyprus, plain and simple.

You still choose to avoid answering the real question can the GCs block vote in their own party? a simple YES or NO will do. If you expect us to take this risk then you are more crazy than I thought you were.

I'm not avoiding anything. If anyone is avoiding in answering questions, it's you. You make this generic scenario about a
"block veto" by the GC's, but you don't give us any examples what it is that they will be blocking that will be detrimental to the TC's, that is going to violate their civil, Democratic and Human Rights, as well as all the other rights that you may ask for, that will be added to the constitution. Therefore VP, you have no idea what it is that you want or that you are afraid of. You are just making noise to be heard, but you are not telling us anything. So don't blame me for ignoring your concerns when you are not telling us what they really are, which brings me back to my comment, and that is, you are not willing to live in a True Democratic society in the country of Cyprus because the numerical numbers of the TC's are less than the GC'c. Do you have a country where all the ethnic groups numerical numbers are the same. I don't think so.

The only thing you are worried about is, that if the relationship between Turkey and Cyprus remains unfriendly after a settlement is reached, then Cyprus may not want to trade with Turkey and that the GC's might vote as a block in the Parliament to make it happen..

We can make Union with another country illegal and have it in the constitution, therefore no referendum can take place, so that there are no dangers of the GC's voting as a "block". I think you will find almost all GC's will welcome this law.

Did I miss anything anything else.??
