What now for Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby michalis5354 » Tue Apr 27, 2004 12:34 pm

I can understand the disapointment of Turksihcypriots as I was also disapointed about the outcome. I wished a united island had joined the EU.

But Lets take things in a longer time scale. For 10 years Klerides was in power and GC side had numerous negotiations with TC side in order to find a mutual agreed settlement. That time Edjevit Denktash and ozkiok were completely rejecting all proposals set by UN and were never willing to cooperate toward PEACE and settlement in the island because they had obviously their dirty plans on Cyprus. At the time Klerides was more than able to reach a settlement If the TC side were more cooperative towards that goal and were keen for a settlement. Denktash was there to reject all the Hard work that UN has put in and to ignore the whole International Community. Obviously the whole International Community is not too blind to understand that .

G.Ferhoygen lately criticised strongly Turkey that For so long had taken a Rejectionist policy and a negative approach in Cyprus issue and they were never cooparative towards the UN resolutions.

Kofi Annan plan seems like especially created for Turkey and Guarantors...not for TCs or GCs benefit....at least we know that TCs are ready to live togeather with GCs..which is a new beginning for both of us...BUT under the name of democracy and human rights...

Yes, but we have no idea of what GC intentions are. 75% NO means GCs prefer division to an OK solution, and they're not ready to share anything with TCs. How are we going to fix that?

i think u looking in a negative way..GCs said no for Annan plan! They didnt said NO that they cant live with TCs or they can't share anything with 'em..just remember the question in Kofi Annans plan..what they've asked..if we ready to join to EU with TCs under the name of Kofi Annans plan?? OXI for Kofi Annans plan...media tells everything in a different way in their own comments..but we cypriots know whats going on in our own country not them....if u go www.bbc.co.uk theres lotz of GCs interviews there...why they said oxi..and TCs interview what they thinking about the results of referandum..most of them said turkish troops would be there and not happy about that..and they told that they had no problem with TCs..why dont u take it in this way? hope they can offer for fair solution in the future time..soz thats what we cypriots waiting for i guess...

Papadopoulos advise people to vote no and no was the response. As the representastive and the main spokespreson for the no faction it is up to him to present an alternative he is happier with. Let him come up with some proposals for a way forward, after all he has something to do with why Plan failed.

No I dont agree with this. I am disapointed that the plan has not been accepted since it seemed a fair plan which took in to considerations all aggreements made from 1960 and onwards.

I think huge efforts should be taken to establish a strong cypriot identity. For example removing all foreign flags on the island would be a good step forward. Its not enoug to say that I am independent you need to act in such a way as well.

And the Priest should be more involved with their religious issues and not with politics.

It is not enough just to answer NO . what we propose its much more important and I agree with metecyp which say that GC intentions should be clarified.

Do u guys really think that Turkey would agree to take their flags down and leave?..Kofi Annans plan was very good for Turkey and other guarantor countries they can keep their bases on island..dont forget about 45 000 of turkish foreigners in north..

so can u plz tell me your own opinion..why GCs said oxi for the plan if it was really fair? whats the big reason? And Which part of the Kofi Annans plan that u really think that its fair TCS and GCS? End of the day...south said oxi and plan is dead now...theres no meaning to talk about this anymore till we see another fair one for both sides of cyprus..not for guarantors..

I don't think that Annan plan will be off the table right away. I'm sure we'll see one form of Annan plan in the future because it's the most comprehensive plan every proposed, so we won't start negotiating from the beginning (unless we want to negotiate another 30 years).
