Now, now! It's not very Greek to expect reciprocation in gift giving.

You should say 'halali tous' ...

I don't. It's GR who tries to minimize the value of the gift

The Cretans should sit on their eggs (να κατσουν στα 'φκα τους)

Last thing we need is for our closest ally to be weakened further by losing an area so vital. The Cretans are even more unstable than the Cypriots, due to pride they might even decide to side with the Libyans rather than Greece.

Why are there Cypriots here so concerned with an apparently growing Cretan desire towards independence from modern Greece?

If this is what the proud freedom-loving people of Crete want, 'di sas melli re halvaes'? We'll have another close ally and another extra-friendly seat at the EU table!

And if Crete entered Eurovision, I know where Cyprus's douze-pointe would go to!

First of all, I don't think majority of Cretans support an independent Crete idea. Secondly, which big powers r behind the so-called seperatist Cretans? Third, I couldn't find any remarkable articles or reports regarding the so-called independence movement of Cretans. What's ur point of discussing something non-existent or 100% doomed to fail?

This "independence movement" is nothing more than an original form of protest towards the Athenocentric government of Greece.
If they were serious and if there was a referendum, they wouldn't get more than 0.01% of the votes

The problem is it's in Greek, but I'm sure you'll manage

here's the part you're interested in:
Στα σχέδια της Εθνικής Φρουράς δεν είναι η απόχτηση κυπριακών φτερών (λόγω οικονομικών κοστών αγοράς και συντήρησης, αλλά η αναβάθμιση των υφιστάμενων ελικοπτέρων), αλλά η κάλυψη του εναέριου χώρου με τα ελληνικά φτερά, τα οποία θα εδρεύουν και στην Κύπρο, στην Αεροπορική Βάση ‘Ανδρέας Παπανδρέου’.

Alexi, there was similar boasting pre-74 about some planes and an armada ready to "defend" Cyprus but today we know otherwise...

A few tens of Greek students in Cyprus versus the thousands of Cypriots studying in Greece? Hardly a reciprocation...

What about the many Greek Pontio flea-bags allowed entry and joining the dole queues… do they count?

And what about the EU?

It’s been a very costly exercise so far… everything seems to have skyrocketed in price since joining! The tourists everyone complains about aren’t prepared to pay our overheads anymore Alexi…

Housing can no longer be purchased by newly weds, unemployment is on the rise, and we’re facing myriads of other problems we didn't have before. :?

That's something you should be asking yourself for wasting so much of your time with something called "TRNC"... Image

In fact, the Cretans have SOME chance of gaining recognition but you have ZERO!

There's no greater force to be reckoned with than a freedom-fighting Cretan! (Except, perhaps, a freedom-fighting Cypriot)

Guerilla campaigns are best planned in secret.

What’s the value of a box of chocolates offered by your wife’s lover?
