Greek Speakers Here!

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Oh come on man are u serious.
U really think that if some people start speaking greek or turkish will meen a separation? I think u have all fallen to the trap of suspecting everything as racism, come on guys chill out.
If thats true then why are we fighting for a reunification.Or u think that in a solution everybody's gonna start speaking in english, and Turkish or Greek will not be used at all.
The name of the Forum is "Cyprus-Forum", in cyprus there are turkish and greek speakers. For me is absolutely logical for a member to ask for a thread so that he/she can speak in greek or turkish.
I know that there are other greek speaking forums but none of them has what i expect from a forum which is to learn more about TCs and what they think.

You also say there would be no conspiracies... come on man, be serious. Are you really suggesting that certain individuals on here would write only nice things about the other community?

I too believe that it can only be good for both communities too listen and argue. However my proposal for a greek thread doesnt meen that that thread will be about cyprus problem.Im talking about general stuff.

Once again i understand why it might be a danger for separating the two communities but in my point of view it will not cause such a separation. And if it does, hey its not like people will be killed and besides it can always roll back to the previous format. Afterall it can attract more people to the forum too. Personally i dont think the 100 active members of this forum are representative of all possible views in Cyprus. Someone that participates in the greek threads for example will easily take a look in the english threads too and take part in them.
For example www.varkoume.net forum has many sessions about cyprus problem and politics, with some quite inteligent and not biased views i would say, and its one of the biggest cyprus forums with >16000 members.
Wouldnt it be better if Cyprus-Forum could also attract so many users and on the same time be a bicommunal forum???

Having been a member of this forum significantly longer than you, you should understand that I've seen proposals like this come and go, along with the individuals who suggested them. I have no interest in causing trouble for you personally, nor is my contention with you a personal matter as I don't know you from Adam. My issue is that forums where Greek or Turkish exist in vast numbers elsewhere and tend to attract some of the more extreme and narrow-minded sections of their respective societies. If you want to turn this forum into just another of these, that's your business.

Yianni, I know that your intentions are honourable, but consider again what you said:

I know that there are other greek speaking forums but none of them has what i expect from a forum which is to learn more about TCs and what they think.

Then ask yourself why this is the case... forums in one language or another are not designed to facilitate understanding between GC and TC because they implicitly exclude the participation of each other. That is the reason why this forum works, it is in a neutral language widely spoken and understood by people from both communities.

I don't regard your idea as racist, but it will encourage the kind of separate communication that leads to distrust and ill-feeling. It also runs the risk of miscommunication, where GC or TC speakers of the other language may misinterpret something that is written due to their linguistic failings.

If you really want a Greek thread, I suggest you PM admin. I hope he gives you the same reply I have. I cite rule 3 from the Cyprus Forum policies:

3) English is the only language allowed. You can post phrases or words in other languages but in this case an accurate translation should be provided.

Posts that violate any of the above will be deleted. Members that repeatedly violate these rules will be banned.

On a pedantic point, I also note that this thread is directed towards 'Greeks' not Greek-Cypriots, yet the other thread Leon started after realising that he had displayed explicit bias towards one community states 'Turkish-Cypriots here'...

Still, from other posts, we know exactly where Leon stands on this issue...

Well, if it looks like an orange, smells like an orange and tastes like an orange... it's likely to be an orange.

Yeah i noticed that just now, and i dont support that kind of separatoin at all.I thought it was saying "Greek only".
Anyway i respect ur view as a grown up member and i will probably just make a poll and see what the other members think.
By the way do u mind giving me some other bicommunal forums websites so that i give them a look?

Yiannis I just like to say that you seem to be a very well informed person and irespect your views and opinions, which is more than i can say for other members that seem to be paranoid and insist on staying on their high-horse (which is infact little more than a short donkey)
