Greek Speakers Here!

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

We're not trying to change the forum into something that exists somewhere else. All I wanted was a Greek-speaking topic (and to make it fair I made a Turkish-speaking topic too) as I thought it'd be nice that we can talk about general things in our languages.

Come on, mate; I've explained that I'm keen to learn more and listen to your views. Don't judge a book by its cover. If (or more hopefully when :P) I visit northern Cyprus I'm not exactly going to go mad and rave, scream, shout and attack the Turkish-Cypriots without being provoked am I? It's a good thing that you're on this site, I'm interested in what you have to say and learn me. After all, i didn't suffer it, when many of you here have or have families that have, and there's so much for me to learn and understand and I'm more than willing to.

just a small additional note: this is a Cyprus Forum and as you can see from the members list there are many people from abroad. Including myself. They are all interested in the same issue, but none of us can talk in their own language here. If we start threads that not everyone is able to understand, the meaning of this Forum will get lost. And as I previously said; i really do not see the need of having small talk in your native language. This can easily be done somewhere else.

P.S. I have no problem at all with the "translated version", as SK is doing....

I agree with City's post. As someone who learned middle english at school, Leon's suggestion for threads in our own language would mean I could start my own too.

Let me quote a bit of Chaucer to show you how impenetrable it could be for non-native speakers:

Whan that Aprill with his shoures shoote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed every veine in swich licour
Of which vertu engendered is the flour
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halve cours yronne
And smale foweles maken melodie
That slepen al the night with open ye.

If anyone wants to start a middle english thread with me, feel free...

Okay ladies & Gents, points made and hopefully taken.
Leon, if it is of any help can I respectfully say that one of life’s skills is to listen. As I understand it communication here is in English, a universal language. Please do not under estimate others' capacity to communicate in not only Greek but in other languages too. My father speaks Six languages and he is 89 this week, he had a classical Greek education as a young man and I only mention it to show that there will be contributors to this forum who could very easily communicate in other languages too, including Greek, but the rules say English so English it must be for reasons previously mentioned by others.
I honestly believe you raise your points with the best of intentions but they seem to develop a bias, perhaps something gets lost in the translation so think of it as a way to improve your English too. Anyway keep the questions coming but in accordance with the rules. I enjoy your contribution.
