Update on UK travel advice for the property issue in Cyprus.

Postby Kifeas » Fri Jun 24, 2005 9:47 pm

This is an update of the UK travel advise for Cyprus on the property issue.

Foreign & Commonwealth Office Travel Advice for Cyprus

"Property issues are closely linked to the political situation (see Cyprus Country Profile). There are a number of potential practical, financial and legal implications, particularly for those considering buying property in the north – these relate to the non-recognition of the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, the possibility of a future political settlement in Cyprus, and claims to ownership from people displaced in 1974. There is also a risk that purchasers would face legal proceedings in the courts of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as attempts to enforce judgements from the courts of the Republic of Cyprus elsewhere in the EU, including the UK. Separately, there are specific rules for foreigners purchasing property in the north and you should ensure you are fully aware of these."

Yes Viewpoint! Because the Annan plan gave you all our properties in the north and to us some toilet papers supposedly to cash in 30 years, if there will be any money, you do not have any worries for the property issue. Now that you got everything you wanted and even more, you have the luxury to speak about security, about peace, about your children, about how nice is to have a trip to the mountains, how beautiful is moon, etc, etc. We all know the story!

You do not worry because you currently occupy more than triple the property you left in the south. For what reason you should complain. You grasped so much more that you gave to the settlers from Anatolia, to most of Denktash's friends, to the Army officers, etc, etc. Of course you do not like to hear about properties any more, because it doesn’t suit you! “Sto spiti tou kremasmenou den milane gia sxoini!” (when you visit a hanged person’s family, you should avoid saying the word “rope”)

Kifeas Im talking about my family not TRNC, my family have more property in the south than they do in the north, why do you revert back to ratios??? saying you are happy because u have more land than you should, the reason for that is we all fucked up so we are in the situation we are in at the moment. You always talk of your individual loss and how its unfair, well its just as unfair for TCs that have also lost property and didnt get anything in the north. Do we go on about it as much as you no, because the safety of my family is paramount to me, not the size or value of property I may own in the south or in a united Cyprus.
The life of my children is far more important than any piece of land, my priority is to secure this issue first before addressing other issues such as property.
If your administration want to get your land back then they have to pursue a policy of getting back to the table to negotiaite for it otherwise the current situation will continue.

kifeas

to be honest i sympathise with your position, - your loss of land.

we got compensated by our authorities for what we left behind- my family received five donums in girne for about six in kofinou and two in larnaca.

Your authorities gave you none in order to keep the matter ongoing.
we are not responsible for the policies of RoC govt. You elect them, why not vote for someone who will fairly redistribute property which we left behind.

if my girne property is worth more than what i have in the south i am quite willing to compensate the difference- but i doubt it coz the larnaca plot alone is said to be worth about......(erm bad manners).

they built a road on some of our kofinou land - why not give it to you instead? what happens now do they dig up the road and rebuild the house?

A tc lady has had 400 houses bulit on her plot in the south did the roc govt keep that land? why?

why do you put up with a govt which keeps land instead of giving it to refugees?

will i get compensated? ............nope

1) We didn't leave anything. You forced us out and you stole it from us.

2)You stole from us way more than you left behind.

3) Your illegal authorities can not give compensation and you are acting illegally by accepting something stolen.
