Turkish man tortured in Belgian prison

The autopsy report of Mikail Tekin, an ethnic Turkish prisoner in Belgium's Jamioulx Prison who lost his life last Saturday, lists his cause of death as “physical violence.”

The prison administration made a statement following the death of 31-year-old Tekin, who was detained on Aug. 7 as a result of a quarrel involving traffic police. While the prison administration announced the cause of death as “choking while eating,” other prisoners protested, claiming that he was subjected to torture while being transported to an isolation cell. Prosecutors stated that marks of violence had been detected on Tekin's body following the autopsy report and detained three guards. Prosecutors said the investigation into the case is continuing. Guards at Jamioulx Prison went on strike yesterday after their three coworkers were detained.

The Belgium Human Rights Foundation (LDH) released its comprehensive annual report earlier this year signaling an increase in human rights violations in the country. Noting that while it speaks out frequently about human rights in other countries.

Just a quick reminder to those who insist Turkey should become "civilised" before entering the EU...

Not at all Epsilon.

What I try to say is, people should sort out their homes first before criticising others.

The amount of atrocities the US and some main EU countries have committed around the world not that long ago, should be enough to take all the audacity out of these people, but incredibly it does not and they keep talking, shameless bastards....

Was it not Belgium not that long ago, that was dictating the whole world on freedom of speech? Remember the cartoons?!

Everyone can be righteous when it comes to other countries, there is nothing though about that and Cyprus is by no means an exception!

The cartoons where in Denmark. The difference with Turkey and this article is that once someone enters a TC/Turkish jail, the beating is the norm rather than the exception.

Sorry DT, my confusion, Denmark is where they originated from but a few other EU countries, including Belgium printed them again to make the same point.

And beating in Turkish jails are not the norm, they happen occasionally in certain jails and most of the time the officers are found guilty and charged, just like it has happened in Belgium.

I do not see the difference?

The marks on his body probably came when the silly buggers walk down the street whilst hitting themselves with chains.
