No reference here to an Olympic Gold Medal.

Surely if a Cypriot has ever won one it should be easy to give details.

A military junta is always a very vulnerable state because every body (military, police, judiciary, etc) is geared against its own civilians so they are useless against an organized invading military force. They’re very lucky Turkey didn’t also turn in their direction or they’d lose the top half with the incompetent Ioannidis at the helm.

I think you are pretty well spot on with this, but a war sometimes will bring the populace behind an otherwise unpopular leader, particularly if one wins. Loosing however will almost certasinly cause a dictatorship to collapse. The failure of the Cyprus venture brought down the Junta.

He may be talented but the claim referred to Cypriot Gold Medal Winners.

Whilst even tiny Leichenstein with a population of approximately 36,000 has won 2 Gold medals the fact is Cyprus has never ever won an Olympic medal , not even a bronze one.

Not a single one. None, zilch, nowt, zero.

It seems to be a GC trait to confuse wishfull thinking with fact.

You seem to be assuming that “gold”, “silver”, and “bronze” medals are only awarded in the Olympics but that’s not the case.

An athlete can also get gold in the world championships as an example.

This man's shooting accomplishments are pretty impressive...
