There's nothing called a true Cypriot. Anyone who holds RoC passport belong to Cypriot nationality. This is as simple as it is. This is a fact and nobody can change it.

I go with Niko here.

I think Niko made the poll in genuine honesty, no intention to exclude or offend anybody.

But Garbitsch and others are the hypocrits here. They accuse Niko for being a bigot by not including them, but it is they who have the 'chip on their shoulder' otherwise they wouldn't be so wound up.

What about english cypriots, and australian cypriots and indeed many others? Should they also be offended ? How long must the list be and what wording? Perhaps we need a mutiple draft of it to get consent from all before we publish. Get a grip.

Come on guys, lets not turn a simple honest thing into a political sandstorm. We can leave that to the polititians they get paid enough!

So back to the point in question. If you fit a category and want to answer then do so. If you don't fit a category, but still want to answer a simple post to say so without getting offensive might return you a favourable answer. If you do or don't fit a catagory and don't care, then say nothing.

I think I have made my point here.

This is BS. I was telling him his mistake at the beginning, and he replied me in an awkward way. I was pissed off. I am repeating, may be your thick skulls will get it this time:

NATIONALITY REPRESENTS CITIZENSHIP. THEREFORE, THERE IS NO GREEK CYPRIOT OR TURKISH CYPRIOT CITIZENSHIPS, THUS NATIONALITIES. THERE ARE TURKISH CYPRIOTS AND GREEK CYPRIOTS, WHICH THESE ARE NOT NATIONALITIES, BUT ETHNIC IDENTITIES.

I am a Cypriot and ethnically I am a Turkish Cypriot, whose ancestors have been living in Cyprus for a couple of centuries.

Nationality includes all people that are citizens of Cyprus. Therefore there is no such thing as Greek Cypriot nationality.

It reminds me of a trap question in high school. Both (a) and (b) seem to be true (for a GC) but only (a) is because of the way the question is expressed.

niko my friend I would like to advise you that most poeple in Cyprus don't like the distinction between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots.
At a time where we prefer to forget who belongs to which enthnic identity you come along and ask us who is a Turk and who is a Greek. You didn't even bother including Turkish Cypriot in your poll which just ads to the insult!
Also consider that being called "Greek" when we are obviously Cypriot is quite an insult too.

I fully understand what question you wanted to ask and perhaps it would have been better to phrase it like this:
"What ethnic background whould you consider yourself belonging too?" (options in the poll should be: G/Cypriot - T/Cypriot - Other Cypriot - Non-Cypriot)

I'm with Garbitsch and Main-Source here. The poll was either set up without thinking about it properly or simply to cause offense.

I rather opt for the first one because it looks like nonsense. If there is a"Cypriot" option then that includes TCs and GCs. No need to make an extra option for GC.

On the other hand: Nikos replies imply offense.

Greek Cypriots are Cypriots. So the option for Greek Cypriots is redundant

We are Cypriots First.

Then you can distinquish your origins as being from:

Turkish decent
Greek decent
or other...

This is why all other nations flags should be banned from cyprus.

if someone could reword the poll, id get them to do it. the answer i want is, do people on these forums consider themselves as fitting into one of the options. do you think your cypriot, greek-cypriot, turk or greek. am i not right in saying that the majority of people living on the island would fit into one of those categories? i think your reading too far into my question to be honest
