Hi Vicky

I had to step in a few postings back when personal remarks were being made, but outside of that, nothing here is against our 'rules'. I personally think that the exclusion of 'Turkish Cypriot' from the poll is an unpleasant slight, if not an oversight, but niko is entitled to his opinion.

Hi Niko
Ok fair enough you cant change your poll, but im sure if you said sorry, then it would go down well with many members.
Everyone makes mistake, ive made many but when you know you made the mistake there is ways to put things right.
You are entitled to your opinion and i respect that. Im not having a dig at you, as i have my own opinions on the problems in Cyprus but its a fact of life that we all have to deal with regardless of if we like it or not.

Hi Lana,

Wouldnt it be possible for you to add Turkish Cypriots to the poll?
I respect the fact that Niko has his own opinion, and i have defended him.
I believe Niko wants to put this right but feels he cant.
Couldnt you do it for him and change the poll?
Its not right that he made a mistake and is getting all this feedback from it and he cant do anything to change the poll.

Vicky, he could just say sorry and create a complete new poll!

Hi Nicos

I have amended your poll to include 'Turkish-Cypriot' as most responders felt it would be more appropriate to include that 'option'.

However, it is your poll and if you do not agree, I propose to delete or lock this thread. However, from your recent postings I assume you will not object to this change.

Cheers

Lana

Can I add one more thing? My point was that "nationality" do not represent ethnic identity, but it expresses belonging to a particular citizenship. So when you are filling out a form, you do not write "English, Scottish, Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot, Kurdish etc" to the "nationality" section, but you write "British, Cypriot or Turkish", since there are no English, Scottish, Turkish Cypriot (except de facto TRNC citizenship)citizenships, thus nationalities. Hence, the poll is completely wrong. Additionally, nationality is not subjective so people are either citizens or not.

I said I was Greek-Cypriot simply because in many cases I have said that I was Cypriot and I was assumed to be Turkish Cypriot. Of course, I find this offensive and so I just have to get used to saying Greek Cypriot all the time.

The nationality "Cypriot" encompasses all people from Cyprus, both Greek and Turkish speaking. But a Turkish Cypriot is not someone sent over from Turkey to occupy our villages in the north, they are Turks.

We can't ignore the fact that if you tell someone that your are Cypriot, you are going to have to specify, especially now that many Brits are flocking to the north for cheap holidays and villas.

We have no problem with that. We are Turkish Cypriots and you are Greek Cypriots. But nationality is something different imo. We do not talk about Flaman national or Wallon national, but we talk about Belgian national. Same principle is applied for Cypriots (both T.Cs and G.Cs)

So Svetlana maybe can edit the poll again and make it "What are you?" instead of "what nationality are you?". That should make everybody happy :P

ye, change it to "what are you" or "what do you consider yourself to be?", instead of "lets take the poll completely literally and consider it as a question of which country you are a citizen of in order to claim its nationality even though there is no such thing as being a citizen of greek-cyprus". im not apologising because i can believe whatever i like, but i'd prefer if you changed the question to one of the two options i stated above
