It is alleged that, after demonstrators congregating this morning outside the hospital where Berkin Elvan died threw stones at a passing police car, a policeman in the car first fired some shots into the air and then fired into the crowd. Nobody appears to have been hurt.

There were over 200 arrests as protests over the death of Berkin Elvan continued into the night throughout Turkey. In Adana, a protestor was left blinded in one eye after being hit by a plastic bullet. In the Istanbul district of Kadiköy, a recording was made of an instruction given to the police to “aim for the eyes”.

Crowds of protestors are apparently trying to force their way into Taksim. The police are currently battling against the protestors in the Kurtuluş district of Istanbul, which is closer to Taksim than Pangaltı.
