Mideast Gas a Chance for U.S. to Break with Turkey

Postby Cap » Thu Sep 05, 2013 9:00 pm

“The U.S. will advance its compelling interest in greater European energy independence, Middle Eastern stability, and NATO’s future as an effective alliance by re-examining its old idea of Turkey, and reinforcing its alliances with Greece, Cyprus, and Israel.”

We all need to unite behind Europe. It can provide the fresh start from the wrong path followed by previous Imperialist interests, such as Ottoman and British Empire expectations. These severed the important sea-waterway links between Greece and Cyprus and the problems are only now surfacing as Turkey freely enters Greek-Cypriot ancient owned waters.

No thanks as Europe (EU) is just irrelevant and 'full of shit'.

Cyprus is in an ideal position to be establishing links with Israel and through Israel, it will be linked to Washington, and only they are relevant along with China!

Europe and Greece? Yeh right!

Our "friends" the Israelis are all too soon, showing their true colours ...

And if Cyprus does not allow the pipeline to pass through its EEZ to Turkey, Israeli officials say Israeli gas will probably not go to the Cypriot LNG plant either. Israel is making clear it doesn’t want to be pulled onto one side or the other of the frozen Turkey-Cyprus conflict.

Come on Cyprus - look to Europe and leave the US_Israel_Turkey trio behind.

Some people really would do well to look up the provisions of UNCLOS on the laying of such things as pipe-lines, submarine cables etc through an EEZ ... and if they did they would discover that third parties can lay pipe-lines through the CY EEZ (that's outside the 12nm territorial sea zone) without permission from CY.

Yes, the EEZ can be accessed, crossed etc without permission - so long as resources are not mined - don't know how laying cables fits in but I am sure there are all sorts of exclusions and limitations.

But once again this brings us back to why the "Great" powers fought/fight so hard to isolate Cyprus from Greece. Because instead of having one long stretch of territorial water going from the coast of Cyprus all the way to the mainland so that this huge part of the eastern Mediterranean belongs exclusively to the Hellenic people of Greece, Cyprus and all the other Hellenic islands, we instead have an "EEZ" between Greece and Cyprus with dubious and foreign determined accessibilities. And people like you continue the fight to make both Greece and Cyprus poorer with this isolationist mentality.

Hmm, that's definitely a mystery... :?

Do you suppose the fact that they're not as daft as you to assume that Cyprus is a “Hellenic” island, has something to do with it? :?
