Now if there is another round of protests will the police be quite so keen to suppress them?

Police forces have fired water cannon and tear gas to disperse groups of protesters in Kadıköy Square in Istanbul in protest the Turkish government’s urban policies and recent corruption claims.

The tensions, which reportedly erupted after a small group of protestors threw stones at officers at a security checkpoint, calmed down after a brief intervention.

The Istanbul City Demonstration, which was planned to denounce the government’s mega construction projects that have threatened green areas of the city and urban transformation projects accused of causing social destruction, turned into a mass meeting of people to protest recently corruption allegations into four Cabinet members, their relatives, a mayor and a number of businessmen.

Hundreds of people, including representatives of some of Turkey’s nongovernmental organizations and opposition parties Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), protested the bribery with slogans like “Let’s protect Istanbul against plundering.”

Many roads on Istanbul's Anatolian side were closed for the rally, which was officially permitted by the Istanbul Governor's Office.

One way of ensuring the police don't investigate corruption...

Turkish Crisis Escalates: Prime Minister Is Decimating The Police Force In Retaliation For Arresting His Allies

Turkish authorities have removed another 25 police chiefs from their posts, media reported, widening a crackdown on the force since it launched a corruption investigation that Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has called a "dirty operation" against his rule.

Thousands back on the streets of Occupied Istanbul to protest the AKP's urban planning policies and corruption...

They were met with TOMAs and gas attacks.

‘Turkey has become a banana republic. It may sound harsh, but events of the last few days simply underline the point...’

Total of Police Chiefs removed from their posts now up to 113 in the Banana Republic of Turkiye with fears another 180 could follow.

From Zaman...

"... Turkish authorities have removed another 28 police chiefs from their posts, media outlets reported on Sunday, in addition to 85 throughout last week, raising the total number of reassignments and firings to 113 in a widening a crackdown that came on the heels of a wave of arrests and detentions in a corruption investigation that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called a "dirty operation" against his rule.

As of Sunday, seven senior police chiefs, 13 deputy police chiefs, 79 branch chiefs and 14 heads of departments had been reassigned or removed from duty. Others are speculating that 180 more policemen will be removed from their posts soon..."

Also from Zaman, claims of a warning to Turkey from the USA...

"... US President Barack Obama's administration has warned Ankara not to use bilateral relations as a tool in Turkey's domestic politics and stated that Turkish officials will not benefit from statements that might poison those relations, Today's Zaman has learned.

“The US is uncomfortable about our relations being used as a pawn in your internal politics. We are worried that unreasonable statements will poison our relations. We expect you to refrain from making statements that might jeopardize the future of our relationship,” said the US administration in its message to Turkey, according to diplomatic sources who spoke to Today's Zaman on condition of anonymity. ..."

Whilst Hurriyet goes further and describes Turkey/USA relations as being on a tightrope...!!! ...

"...Turkish and U.S. diplomats narrowly avoided a major crisis over Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s implication that Washington’s ambassador could be expelled over provocative actions, but bilateral ties are still on a tightrope as government officials and pro-government media seem unlikely to cease a campaign against “external forces” behind an ongoing graft probe. ..."

I believe that he will be arrested fairly soon; there is already talk of his son being implicated in the ongoing corruption investigations.
Political parties can be closed in Turkey using judicial means and I would not be surprised if the AKP itself is closed soon, which would surely lead to early general elections.

Here is one account of how Erdogan's family are implicated in the corruption scandal:

The allegations of bribery and corruption are also starting to get too close to Erdoğan for his comfort. Supposedly, one element of the scandal is that the prime minister’s son, his wife, his in-laws, and some close friends set up a foundation last year for the “education of youth.” The foundation opened a residence for university students. Now it turns out the Foundation didn’t pay for the dormitory, but rather public money from the Fatih district municipality, which is headed by an AKP mayor now under detention. So what Erdoğan’s family did with the money they claimed was spent on the dormitory is an unanswered question...
